Nope. Its a fact. Two managers didn't get him during that Summer. Common denominator....

Granted he would have cost a shit load of money all in but Short cost us dearly when he decided the days of paying all up front to give us a competitive edge were gone. He then went on to just not paying out full stop :(

He wasn't superb mind. He's clearly a good player though

In the context of Sunderland midfield players in my too many years watching us - he was superb!

If superb is top 2/3 out of absolutely hundreds of midfield players, then he was superb

The two players are a good comparison. Schwarz not a big man but read the game very well. Always around to make a contribution. That's why he played at better clubs than the Frenchman. And, why did the Frenchman disappear? I didn't really rate him based on his contribution, never looked in control of a match, spent too much time chasing the ball and looking lost. I put Clarke, McCann, Rae and Kevin Ball in front of him - these were players who made their presence felt and were always in the game.

The game passed him by in shit loads of matches.

Lee Clark was the best of the ones you list but he really really wasn’t as good as M’villa

Kevin Ball, that’s just stupid. All heart and very admirable but haway man he couldn’t lace the boots of the best midfield players we’ve had

Loved him me. A clever midfielder with the brains to dictate things and the ability to engage the midfield unit positively. Moyes or the club tried to be clever and instead of spending £7m on absolute quality that wanted to be here we spent £13m on absolute shite.

At the back end of the season he was brilliant IMO, alongside Kirchhoff / Barry.

Gutted we never signed him, but I’ll not blame Moyes for that as he didn’t sign all summer even when Allardyce was in charge, shambles that we wouldn’t stump up the money for him but paid over double for N’Dong

As you say Ball wasnt even close to the level of player that m'vila was. Ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

We were superb the end of that season with Big Sam, i honestly thought we’d cracked it :lol:
I remember walking out the ground after the Everton match and it wasn't us being safe and the Mags going down that I was more chuffed about, it was that I genuinely felt we would kick on towards mid table the next season....enter Iceland and Moysey...

Absolutely spot on mate.

he's stuck a video of our fans chanting his name on Instagram and added a red and white emoji to it.

if only...

Wonderful midfielder.

Anyone who disagrees just watch our midfield this year and remember what it was like when Sam had Yann and Kirchhoff working.

He was desperate to stay, loved it here

It absolutely f***ing amazes me people can say the likes of m’vila weren’t that good when you look where his replacements have landed us.

No one is suggesting he could play for city but compared to any of the midfielders we had in our last run in the prem he was on a different level.

Would be a good signing for palace or West Ham.
