Lyndon Gooch

Hello tonight was really encouraging and in my opinion our style is night and day from last season, so overall not too deflated at all. One thing I’m going to bring up negatively is Gooch, when is he ever going to learn to pick the right pass? in your opinion, at what stage does it become too much and he gets dropped.

i know the counter argument is going to be that he provided the ball for the offside goal but his conversion rate on crosses given he gets himself in the positions is horrific.

is Pritchard worth a start on Saturday?
Gooch is shite, pure and simple, seen enough of him now

Did you not notice him picking the perfect pass for Stewart to score a perfectly good goal? If we didn't have an incompetent linesman we'd be talking about Gooch coming up with the perfect assist at the right time. There is a massive tendency on here to try to blame a poor result on individual's weakness - last night it was Gooch and bizarrely O'Nien. The reality was last night was the reason we didn't win was due to a combination of brilliant goalkeeping/poor finishing/an inept linesman and bad luck, it was not down to Gooch's faults. We are down in Division 3 so all players will have some weaknesses but Gooch is an excellent player for this level.
Did you not notice me specifically reference that in the OP?

Well done then mate, great point.
Well done on the OP. Slag the lad off while pointing out what a brilliant cross he put in for our disallowed goal. Nice well balanced argument - he might be good but he might be shit. What I can see is a band wagon for him being the next boo boy with you primed to jump on

I'd much rather him than someone who disappears all the time, he never ever hides, always looks for the ball and always tries to make something happen. He's very inconsistent with it but I'd rather he was that than a Tommy Miller impersonator.
He'll score around 8-10 goals and he'll get a fair few assists as well and long as he isn't out for long periods, we'll struggle to get better output than that from another winger in this league

It’s a dilemma.

He works hard and demands the ball over and over again, the problem with that is in a game where it’s not working out for him it has a huge impact on us because he’s seeing so much of the ball.

There was an incident last night where we were in a good position on the edge of the box and he had his head down and tried to shift it and shoot through 3 of their players, it was easily blocked, they nearly broke away but our midfielders won it back and his arms were already out asking for the ball again to have another go just seconds after his first fuck up.

McGeady had a quiet game but he was in similar positions several times when the shot wasn’t on and at least he’s got his head up and realises it and moves the ball on.

Gooch needs to be more aware of the opposition, he plays as if he’s playing against the training ground dummies.
He try’s to play as if he alone will win us games, he can’t and as a result it affects the whole team performance. Mcgeady quite similar. Give them the ball and let them do ‘their’ thing ! 9 times out of 10 it usually results in us being on the defensive as it inevitably breaks down.

Decent player imo, he does though have a knack of blowing hot and cold, he's also the type of lad who for some reason looks obvious when he drops a bollock, no idea why, some footballers just stand out.

The Phil neville effect.

Not one mention of McGeady giving the ball away for their goal and missing a one on one
McGeady has been far worse than Gooch so far this season but doesn’t get anywhere near the level of stick despite Gooch at least bringing hard work when he’s having an off day. It’s a matter of time before Cirkin starts getting stick at LB while the lack of protection he gets from McGeady goes unmentioned.

I daren't post a response that this deserves , I’d cop a ban. Gooch , first name on the team sheet every game for me. Even on an off day like Tuesday he still ripped Burton FB to shreds first half and in the second when switched to the left he found it easy to turn back inside onto his right foot to cross. Massive player for us at this level would walk into any LG 1 and a few championship teams.

He's an inconsistent player.

Brilliant performance one game but frustrating the next.
Frustrating the next six or so.

He hardly scores any goals and doesn't create a lot unless he is on a good day. Should be dropped.
Was it not Gooch who crossed for Flanagan?? No end product yet our "goal" came from a superb Gooch cross.

If Gooch was playing for a different team in this league, we'd all want to sign him...
What goal?

Gooch is a very frustrating player, I think anyone who is caught in two minds needs to realise his inconsistencies will never change. He can be MOTM one day, then I feel come the next match he tries to be the hero, fails, rinse and repeat. He's a good League One player, and if he was consistent he'd be a Championship player. I do like him, and I'm patient with him too, mainly because I understand and can almost predict his performance. He gives his all every match too.

I think he gets more stick than he deserves.

He was right up there in the league for open play assists last season and he got moved about in 4-5 positions. I do prefer him off the left rather than on the right but with McGeady we’re not likely to see it.
