I saw them loads, but after Luke. First time at the Sunderland Empire in 1988 when Ronnie Drew spoke about the death of Ciaron Bourke.
My Mam and Dad had considered taking me when I was younger in the 70s but took me to The Spinners instead :-( Would have loved to hear Luke Kelly live
Best gig was at the Mean Fiddler in Harlesden with Shane MacGowan appearing for three or four songs.

Not even in the same ball park. Sorry like, I’m normally very respectful of others opinions but there’s no rational debate on this issue. Musically / lyrically / culturally they are second best.

Dubliners a much better band. I love the Wolfe Tones but they recorded some twee stuff too, better live than on any of their records after the 70s.

Saw them about 10 years ago. Obviously a watered down variant.

Till ireland a nation is such a great album by the wolfe tones. One of the best from that genre.

Agreed, probably my favourite of theirs. Their musicality was still much to the fore then, no pretensions or gimmicks, just the songs.
