Loot boxes: Lords call for 'immediate' gambling regulation

I think the way Rockstar seem to do it is fine, can just outright buy whatever you want in GTA so at least the shithousery is transparent.
Thats all they have to do to get round any gambling restriction, the nobbers with more money than sense can still buy some skill and they can still rinse kids of their pocket money

i sold about a grands worth of virtual steam items not long back to get a valve index VR

glad I did not, but I still have 100s more CS GO cases I was going to hold onto and wait for them to increase in value, think I better get rid of them too now.

Should ban all kinds of micro transactions and any form of computerised gambling.
Woah, bit harsh.
I don't think micro transactions in themselves need to be bad tbh, it just depends on the cost and how its implemented.
It's loot boxes that are the problem, people paying to spin a wheel in video games isn't great like.

Apparently 1/4 of all EA's revenue comes from FIFA Ultimate Team alone

No reason to ban/legislate against micro-transactions where people know exactly what they're getting for their money e.g. Cars, weapons etc. in GTA albeit apparently they have introduced a casino to GTA online. Easily seperated from kids paying real money in the hope you might get a decent player in Ultimate Team.

Game developers are f***ing awful compared to what they used to be. Back in the day you’d get a full complete game, no extra costs or anything.

Now? Games come out labelled as ‘early access’ so they can push it out earlier and sell it unfinished, with updates hardly ever coming (I.e DayZ). There are about 16 different versions of the game on release (Digital deluxe, ultimate edition and all that bollocks). DLCs where you have to pay extra to play more of the game you already bought, some coming out on Day 1. Season passes to get you tied in. Microtransactions so you can unlock new cosmetics that you can’t earn through progressing in the game. Costing more money to buy it digitally than to get the disc.

ergh.

Steam is rank for it. If it was a decent beta it wouldn't be so bad but a lot of this shit is barely in alpha.

Part of it is down to it being small Indy devs with no cash, some are just trying to make a bit of cash before f***ing off.

You don't need to buy it.

If you want to pony up for DLC in advance or pay through the nose for some tat that's your choice.

Day 1 DLC shouldn't be a thing. If I'm enjoying a game why wouldn't I want to drop a bit of cash for additional content?

The elder scrolls, fallout, have some great DLC. The witcher 3's DLC is amazing.

Season passes to get you tied in.
You don't need to buy a season pass, if it's something your going to get a lot of milage from and jumping on early saves you some money in the long run then why not?

I've only ever bought 1 or 2 season passes personally. For a lot of games in happy to wait for GOTY or ultimate addition a year down the line that gets me the lot.

Microtransactions so you can unlock new cosmetics that you can’t earn through progressing in the game.
Again, that's fine. If someone wants to buy their character a costume that's their call. The big issue with it is needing to get it via loot box where you don't know what you're getting. If someone wants to spend a fiver on a costume then they should be able to, they shouldn't need to drop a ton waiting to get a particular outfit though imo.

It's frustrating, without it high steet gaming and the 2nd hand games market dies though.
