Londonderry Car Bomb

Derry is its original Irish name. It means ''Oak Grove''. Just for the record, everyone in the ROI calls it Derry, including official signposts, maps. Officially, in NI, they refer to it as Derry/Londonderry to keep everyone happy, so I don't see how that is calling it the wrong name.
Pc Duff likes to be controversial.

You're right. Except for the keeping everybody in NI happy bit. Generally most people in NI outside of the place, regardless of what foot they kick with refer to it along the lines of, "that shithole full of dour sounding oddballs" :).

The original anglicised version of the name was Derry. At that time, several hundred years ago within the county of Coleraine. Around the time it was granted the prefix "London" they also re-jigged county boundaries and named the county Londonderry. Always figured that would have been a fair compromise nowadays, giving a little respect to both sides. The city of Derry in the county of Londonderry.
