Note: this IS a look at me thread.

Up bright and early and off to run the london marathon.

Got a sore back and the shits through nerves so won't be fast but want to beat last years time.

Wish us luck then or at least embarrasing failure.

Good luck mate. The great north run is an achievement for me

What a horrible day. Started off feeling a bit queesy with a 'runny tummy'. Nerves I thought but it stopped me having much breakfast. Oh well. At the start I got caught up in the queues for the loo so tagged on towards the back with the very slow runners so missed my times and tried to make time back when I could. Very silly. It also felt so so hot. At ten miles I stopped for a wee and nearly collapsed. At that point I thought I would have to drop out (st Johns were already treating people fot heat related problems at that stage). The heat kept up until about mile 18 then the cloud came and it cooled a bit. Most of the race I ended up marching/jogging which gave me a poor and dissapointing time of 5h15 which was 45 mins more tha. i was aiming for.
To top it off, on the way home I had to hop off the tube to decorate their platform with sick and I dread taking my shoes off to see the state of my feet.
If that was my first marathon I would swear that I would never do another.
Not the best day, and I have another one in 3 weeks time.

At least youve done it, more than the rest of us. well done matey.Bet you still sign up for next year as well:lol:

A mate of mine did it today too.

we saw him at 23 miles looking a bit dazed, he fell into us, didn't say a word then gave my missus some jelly beans. Then ran off.

I can think of better things to do with a sunday than run 26 miles 385 yards.

Would never do a big City marathon or half marathon....Cant run a decent time or run freely as you spend half the race dodging everyone round you and risking injury....Would never do the GNR despite it being on my doorstep...

Running Keswick half marathon on May 1st, total field 400ish in amazing countryside. Entered into Kielder marathon in October, total field 1500...

Dont give up because of a bad first experience....Find a "smaller" race where you can run your own race without having to be an MMA fighter to complete it (and if you want a shit you can just walk off the course into the forest to dump your load) :-D

I did London last year and loved it even though my time wasn't good. Set off far too fas and paid for it later on.

i am entered in the Halstead and Essex marathon (the day after my 40th) next month. With 750 entrants it should hopefully be a better experience. After that my wife tells me that I am hanging up my trainers for a while.

Today was just a bad day. you know what it's like. You can often tell within the first mile how your run will go.

So how are your feet?

Well done all the same mate, was watching and wishing I could get off my arse to do something like that. Did you run for a charity out od interest?

Left foot is just a blister on the inside of the heel.

Right foot, large blister under the big toe, large blister under the ball of the foot and the end of the 2nd toe is a large blister. The 2nd toe nail may be on the way out. V sore but not too bad.

Thats what I did the other year so had a crack at the ballot and got in on a 1 in ten chance so had to go through with it. Raised £1500 last year for diabetes UK.

This year I didn't get in through the ballot. A local cancer charity who has helped out a few friends where I am had some places and I raised 3 grand for them. I am very happy with that.

Nice! Do you have to wear proper shoes for work or can you get away with something that will be a bit more comfortable?
