Football has become to big in the media as well, even the announcement of just the fixtures gets to much coverage.

Years ago the fixtures just came out, now there is a announcement weeks before to tell everybody when they will be announced!!!

Ridiculous!!

I know this has been World Cup year, but even when it’s not, the papers are still all about football even when none on.

They even do it for the weather man, boils my piss. "Later we'll have the weather," then, " well its been nice today and I'll be along later with the weather". Far too much "filling" for everything now. Half the country must be employed telling us what someone will be doing / telling us later just in case we miss something. Sorry for digressing, rant over.

What is happening at Brandon ?
If you believe the rumours, they are paying a fortune for first team players, but conceded their second team game today.

Depends what rumours they are.

Anything they are spending will all be money they’ve generated though. Very much doubt they’ll be spending beyond their means - may want to consider a better balance for the future though.

5 wins and 5 defeats is a f***ing shocking return when you look at the side they’ve got.

As for the Seconds, they need to sort the junior section out as the main priority pronto. Mind I fully expect the Seconds to be competitive next year, far too many fickle players who don’t fancy it when they’re up against it week in week out.

Return of the football season hasn’t helped either.

Unbelievable if they have conceded mind the junior set up they had a few years ago was outstanding looks like this is a consequence of the current thinking and the price being payed

Currently sitting watching Murton 1st team playing.

They have only 10 men and 2nds have conceded!

Just a matter of time before leagues allow only one team to enter a league

And rightly so. The DCL took a fairly poor approach to this a couple of seasons ago and with a more open minded approach that considers the way the game in the 21st century, one or two more clubs may still be functioning at that level and even still be in existence.

Having a requirement of two teams is all well and good but if clubs are turning out 9 players, two of which are under 13s, another couple are on deaths door, one is playing in trackie bottoms and then running off to do the drinks, you have to question the actual meaningfulness of the fixtures. It makes a mockery of the league and the game IMO. And the league's solution to teams / struggling clubs not fulfilling second team fixtures is to heavily fine them. What a great idea. No offers to help find solutions or suggestions to make things work. Just give us the money that you probably dont have.

I hope Murton approach the league and ask to field one team. I hope the league are open to the idea and listen to the concerns.

The sooner a grade system is in place, the better IMO. But having sat in numerous League Meetings, I can't see it. Let the strong 2nd XIs play at a higher level and reduce the overs down to 40 for the bottom divisions. 5 hour cricket would get a few more lads choosing to play at struggling clubs when otherwise they wouldn't consider it. And remove some of the ridiculous criteria in place for playing at a higher level.
