Local clubs subs

£60 at Spennymoor. Then £3 for home games and £2 for away games.

The team I play for in Aberdeen (Portcullis) charge £8 per match (Saturday games) and we're joining a new Sunday 'Development' League - limited overs and emphasis on fun which will be £6 per match.

We've never had yearly subs - we're primarily a social team with quite a high turnover of players (historically). We don't have our own facilities (pitch, clubhouse etc.) - so our only outlays are the cost of municipal pitches, league fees, match balls and some kit (most people have their own) and we bring our own teas for home games. It works for us - and I reckon you'd be hard pushed to find better value cricket.

Out of interest - what do most folk use for match balls - we're tied to using branded Dukes supplied by a local sports shop for all our 'Grades' fixtures - but our Sunday team will be free to use a different (hopefully cheaper) ball.

I know Northumberland and Tyneside were told they had to use the Oxbridge ball a few years ago on the 'recommendation' of Neil Killeen. Awful and changed back to Dukes and readers the year after. Surely he must have been getting a kick back from Oxbridge for getting exclusive use but it didnt last long

A lad at my work played for a club near Wetherby (East Keswick) which I assume is in your league. He says his club has folded as the league has collapsed?

Yes heard East Keswick had gone. They were struggling for a bit, hardly any locals playing just Asian lads coming from Leeds, playing & going home after so not involved with upkeep of the ground, community etc. Dressing rooms were a disgrace last time we were there no leccy or hot water.

Wetherby League is still going for time being but there was a vote whether to amalgamate with York Vale which went narrowly in favour of the Wetherby League keeping going but I suspect it won’t be for long. Loads of clubs struggling for players we are the exception we had 30 players available over the 1st & 2nds some weeks last year. Think we have an informal agreement with another club for the coming season that they have first dibs on any of our spare players when they are short.
