Liverpool threaten breakaway from Premier League's TV rights deal

Having read that can I just say I'd really like to throw acid in Ian Ayre's face?

Just throw 'A review of Premier League season 2010/12' in his face. The one where his club hired Roy Hodgson as manager, finished 6th and averaged attendances of 1,000 below their relatively tiny capacity. They're not an elite club and 'deserve' fuck all.

Which wall is this you blurt? Think about what you are saying you gobshite.

Regarding the thread, i am a little uncomfortable with this. But this has been on the agenda of ourselves and Man Utd for years now. Only a couple of weeks ago Ferguson was complaining that they don't receive their fair share of the TV deal.

Also people saying Liverpool only want this now we have no Champs League money and we never complained previously. Well there are different people running things now and they was not involved in the club when we was in the Champs League. I am under the impression that, part of the appeal of buying Liverpool was the potential of the club to earn mega bucks from their own TV deal.

As i said i don't necessarily agree with it but the money men are going to want to maximise this cash cow as much as they can. This all started with the Premier League and this appears to be the next level.

So fuck. If I bought a Ford Fiesta on the basis of the dealer telling me that it'll do 300mph, the fuck up is my own.

If you're a football fan you should be opposed to this - not least because an extra £10m a year in TV money doesn't alter the fact that Liverpool are lightyears behind the Manchester clubs and Chelsea. And denying that money to the smaller teams might be the difference between survival or otherwise.

The La Liga model is killing Spanish football - if we copy that then the Premier League is all but dead and the utterly shit European League will happen.

In the La Liga model, Liverpool are Valencia. Fucked, in other words.

Probably this one:

As i thought but the fact regarding this tragedy is that Liverpool fans charged the Italians and a crush caused the wall to collapse. No liverpool fans pushed the wall so he is wrong.

I'm not saying it is right but they believe they can earn millions more that they already do.

As i read it then the deal does not effect the Premier League deal in this country but would see clubs complete their own deals abroad. I might be wrong but that is the impression i am under.

They aren't like - they only want this based on foreign broadcasting. Liverpool are a huge draw abroad - second only to Man U.

Come off it mate – any need for that shit?

I don’t agree with what Ayre said to be honest. Would open up a dangerous can of worms. From what I’ve read this obviously only refers to international rights so wouldn’t affect the domestic deal, although might set a dangerous precedent.

To take some of the points made here (some fair, some less so):

- If he’s spoken out I’ve no doubt he’s been in conversations with other clubs to who think it’s a starter so it’s probably not just us pushing for it
- Yes, it would probably suit United more as they have the biggest fanbase. I’d say worldwide we would be next (of the English clubs). We might be living in the past, we might not be good anymore and all those other points but we still have a pretty huge support worldwide.
- In terms of ‘why is he only saying this now’ well to be fair Ayre has only been in charge in the last year or so, so when we were in the Champions League we had different people running the club.

In summary, modern football is rubbish. Money is ruining the game. It’s all stuff we already knew, just seems like we’re trying to run off with our big share. I’m not overly happy about it but don’t think it will lead anywhere at this stage.

Good post. I would have went ballistic with the wall pusher shit. Fair play for being so restrained.

It already killed Italian football. If all the revenue is going to 2 or 3 teams you're fucked, you need credible appointments to create a credible league.

I knew that would be how you twisted it.

But you shouldn't try to argue semantics if you're going to start your post with "as I thought" in reply to my "probably" ...

Foreign broadcasting of Premier League matches. That they play against other teams.

Let them sell LFC.TV to the world seeing as they're so humungous. It isn't their Premier League.

And if they want to monetise their perceived status via TV revenue, I suggest they attempt to qualify for the Champions League. First step there would be to sack Kenny Dalglish and hire a manager based on credentials rather than sentimentality. Second step would be to woo an oil baron. Third step would be to increase capacity of their tin pot stadium to ensure adherence to the financial fair play rules. The borders of Merseyside not an option? Probably not - too much competition, too many planning restrictions, not enough liquidity amongst the population. So, why not try a new territory? Somewhere with plenty of brownfield land, few local top flight teams and a relatively affluent catchement area - perhaps Slough.

I'm sure Liverpool fans will be happy with these moves. After all, money is the most important thing, isn't it?

They don't want to be the broadcaster - they just want more wedge from the foreign tv rights. He suggests the La Liga model, where they sell Liverpool games to who they want, as a means of doing it.

It's a shit idea, would ruin the Premier League, but they would be a Barcelona and not a Valencia in any deal like this.

So I presume they'd gladly give more Champions League revenue to Barcelona and Real Madrid then?

Cheers. Initial reaction was to fly off the handle but then what’s the point, I’ll only be told to shut up. Seeing as I’m on here as a fan of a different team I want to at least come across as up for debate etc and not just being a WUM or getting into slanging matches.
