Liverpool fans not from Liverpool

Loads of them in Blackpool and the rest of the North West's smaller towns. Mates of mine won't even allow me to watch Liverpool games with them. They can't bare it if they lose at any point and won't talk about the match if Sunderland take something from them. I broke my leg in 2002 and after being house bound for 6 weeks, I was invited round to watch Sun/Liv at Xmas, the year Michael Proctor scored the winner around 82 mins for 2-1. One of these plastic LFC fans walked out and refused to speak to me or say goodbye. Hadn't seen him in 2 months since the leg break. Absolute spoilt babies with self entitlement to victory on all occasions. The reason I hate them more than the Mags.

I am not certain it really matters as long as a supporter is consistent. So if Johnny had no reason to support Liverpool by family or culture, but he grew up watching them, stayed faithful to them, paid money into them when he can, is he not a true supporter?

My reasons for supporting Sunderland are complex. I am not from the city, best I can say is my grandfather (who was born and raised in Sheffield) spent a good few years living in Washington as a teacher, went to games and became a season ticket holder for about 5 years, couple of uncles born in the city of Sunderland, and hence it became a family tradition, he then moved the family away after WW2. The period when my grandfather attended games was mid 30s, so he was probably a glory hunter. But him, my uncles, my Dad, me and 1 of my brothers all were/ are committed Sunderland supporters. We don´t get to many games, but we have all made pilgrimages, we pay for SAFC subscriptions online, we buy merchandise etc. Are we not supporters?

These wallies who never went to a match but stick up for a team when it is fashionable but not before or after, they are fairweather fans, and yeah, they can sod off, especially when they start spouting off.
I have no issue of anyone with no links supporting a club...fair play to you mate for choosing SAFC - we are and should be a broad church.

I think what people are having a go at is people just choosing succesful clubs.

Whats been refreshing this season is watching proper supporters of lower level clubs coming to SAFC. They are proper supporters particularly form areas where it would be the easiest thing in the world to support more successful clubs.

People from this area 'supporting' Liverpool have probably never darkend Anfield to show their suppport. What sad people they are.

It’s the Kent based Liverpool fan with no connections to Merseyside telling the proper supporter of a “lower level” club how “we” are going to win this that and whatever and how “your” club have got things wrong

Absolute worst people on the planet, massive helmets every one of them

what joy do these plastic idiots get from being a glory hunter?
Just seen several people interviewed at the parade, not one of them was a scouser

You may as well support France or Brazil at the next World Cup!!!

Sad bastards IMO

I'm a Sunderland supporter who isn't from Sunderland. Am I a sad bastard?

Yes. Yes, I am.

At least we've been shit enough so that you can prove you'd stick with the club you chose even if they dropped to league one! Highly doubt many of the Liverpool/ man united types would. Now we just need to become mint and you can sit there very content, this might take a while!

I know hundreds down south. Always have, but only 2 lads are from Liverpool area, and 1 is from Dublin . Always been like that with Liverpool and UTD to be fair. Loads of Chelsea Arsenal and Spurs but most are from at least close to London

True....when they use the word 'we' it does make me laugh.

I once got into a discussion with a northumberland based liverpool fan who had yet to visit Anfield (depite being on our planet for a number of decades) who was being a little derogatory about SAFC. I asked him what was required to be a Liverpool supporter in Northmberland given that I had been to Anfield on numerous occasions following SAFC. As his support constituted being vociforous in the pub when they were on Sky and wearing the footy shirt I immediatly became a Real Madrid fan and put him in his place. :)

They're all parasites.
If everyone did what they did, nearly all clubs would have zero supporters and go out of business.
The plastics can only exist because of proper supporters.

Plastic parasites.

I think you may have missed the point of this thread, by a mile

I don't think I did. Honestly, I don't care why people support who they support. For me it was a random choice, just like for others. If someone picks Liverpool right now because they're winners and sticks with them when/if they become shite, fair enough. Or if they ditch them for the next shiny thing, whatever. Who really cares? It's just football.

FWIW, I'm STID, but that doesn't make me better than someone else IMO.

If you grow up without parents/ family being football fans, the exposure you’re going to get to football is 99% going to be Premier League clubs. You’re not going to have Sky Sports or BT so it’ll be Match of the day, final score, maybe the occasional FA Cup game etc...

You’d have to be mental at that age not to choose one of the big teams as they’re the ones with the superstars, scoring all the goals and winning all the games. I can totally get why someone is a glory supporter.

Also, it is really really hard to get tickets to watch Liverpool
, Chelsea etc... (Maybe not the Manchester clubs tbf). So I can understand why loads of them don’t go often. But to have never been at all and to call yourself a fan, fuck off.

I managed to get ticket for the champions League semi final (I'm not a Liverpool fan) - so I think this is a myth that is often peddled by non local armchair fans tbh

I have told this anecdote before but it may be worth retelling it.

A colleague at work in Nottingham is a Liverpool ‘fan’. Over the 15 years or so that we have worked together he always gave the impression that he attended matches and was quite involved with supporting his team.

We had a chat one dinner, I was telling him about a trip to watch SAFC and he mentioned that for his 40th birthday he’d been treated to a guided tour around Anfield. I’ve been there on about 5 occasions and told him that the view from the away end was shite, then asked him where he usually sat when he went.

“Oh this will be my first visit to Anfield” he replied ... “but I have watched them at the City Ground once”.

How exactly? The Euro scheme is different from league scheme, which is still a bitch.

But in general it's the past 5 or 6 Euro games either as a Member or a 'priority rights holder' ie. people shit canned when FSG bought the football club. That or the L4 resident lottery.

Alright I was being a bit disingenuous a supplier for me the ticket but yours were selling tickets for not much more than face value outside the arkles..where there's a will there's a way! Liverpool are very well supported (assume you're a fan) but net lots of people in pubs before and after whid got tickets who weren't season ticket holders
