If we had Liverpool's success they'd follow us, goes with the territory.what joy do these plastic idiots get from being a glory hunter?
Just seen several people interviewed at the parade, not one of them was a scouser
You may as well support France or Brazil at the next World Cup!!!
Sad bastards IMO
N Wales close to Merseyside. Lots of Everton fans around there too.I know three.
One from Plymouth, one from Bishop Auckland and one from N. Wales.
750.000 is a lot of people but could you imagine how many would have turned up for your check-a-what? Cup If you had won
Us apparently! Years of effin misery football and then on top of this cretins come along implying that as we're not from Sunderland so we shouldn't support them.I'm a Sunderland fan and I'm not from Sunderland. So, who is the real fool here?![]()

My son is a reverse gloryhunter, born and brought up in Merseyside; Sunderland Season Card holder. After the last two weekends I feel he may kill me; he'd probably be let off if he didIf they've got family from there then it's fair enough. I had SAFC passed onto me; I live here now and my son was born here, but if he'd been born elsewhere I'd sure as hell make sure he was Sunderland as well. It's an odd one, we've got fans with no links to Sunderland and I do have a sort of respect for it (certainly isn't glory hunting!) but can't stand the ones who "support" Liverpool and the likes.
A big part of a club is that it is meant to represent the city/ area it's from. Sunderland doing well is a huge boost for the city, both from a point of view of morale and economically. If you don't have any reason to actually care about the city I don't think you can claim your support is the same as someone who lives and breathes it. Equally I hate seeing plastic Newcastle fans who go on about "hating" Sunderland; you don't hate us, you probably don't know any actual Sunderland fans, you've never been to the city, when you lose yet another derby you don't have to put up with colleagues/ friends/ sometimes family rubbing it in. Pretend hatred for the rivals is the most pathetic part of it, along with the ones who try to take the piss because their club, which they picked out of a hat of "successful clubs to support" has won a European Cup. It's a global game, I've got no issue with people preferring one club over another, but the ones who pretend they are as much a fan as those who have it in their blood are missing the point entirely
Well, are they (plastic idiots)? Every time we have a big, big game, this board rolls out the red carpet for all our many fans who either no longer live in the region or have never lived here. And we rightly celebrate that fact. Liverpool are a big club and they will have Scousers spread far and wide and a fair percentage of fans they have acquired along the way.what joy do these plastic idiots get from being a glory hunter?

That Liverpool fan that went missing / was arrested ....... from Plymouth.
Snap I loved the fact people support us for different reasons other than being from up here met loads at play off and checkatrade I would imagine loads more would appear for a major finalWhen I was at Wembley last week. I met Sunderland supporters from all over the shop. Are you only allowed to support the team where you are born ?
I am not certain it really matters as long as a supporter is consistent. So if Johnny had no reason to support Liverpool by family or culture, but he grew up watching them, stayed faithful to them, paid money into them when he can, is he not a true supporter?
My reasons for supporting Sunderland are complex. I am not from the city, best I can say is my grandfather (who was born and raised in Sheffield) spent a good few years living in Washington as a teacher, went to games and became a season ticket holder for about 5 years, couple of uncles born in the city of Sunderland, and hence it became a family tradition, he then moved the family away after WW2. The period when my grandfather attended games was mid 30s, so he was probably a glory hunter. But him, my uncles, my Dad, me and 1 of my brothers all were/ are committed Sunderland supporters. We don´t get to many games, but we have all made pilgrimages, we pay for SAFC subscriptions online, we buy merchandise etc. Are we not supporters?
These wallies who never went to a match but stick up for a team when it is fashionable but not before or after, they are fairweather fans, and yeah, they can sod off, especially when they start spouting off.
