Liverpool fans not from Liverpool

Aside from Wigan being as close to Liverpool as, say, Hartlepool is to Sunderland?
I think it's fine to come Wigan and support Liverpool. No one from Hartlepool would get questioned if they supported Sunderland. Also why does my computer think Hartlepool is an incorrectly spelled word!?

How’s that work for me then op ?? I’m not from Sunderland ( my mam is ) but I’m a Sunderland fan , have been since 1980 , does that make me a plastic glory hunter ??

By the way I live in the very far north of Scotland , I get to 1 or 2 safc games a season, 800 mile round trip which isn’t cheap

What say you ???

There’s a difference though isn’t there? If there are family ties then fair enough, if you follow a club because they are successful then you’re a plastic fan IMO.

I've worked in a few places but have only met one fella from the city who goes to games. Met loads more who come from the south of England who probably wouldn't be able to find their way to the city. None have family ties BTW.

I've got a mate (from North Tyneside, who was born in Glasgow but moved to England before the age of 1) who claims to be both a Celtic and Man Utd fan depending on his mood. He's never seen Man Utd play in the flesh although he has got to the occasional Celtic game. He's about as Scottish as Frank Bruno

Fecking hell Frank ain't a Jock well I never, know what I mean Harry

It’s the “we” that grates me most. Then the follow up bollocks of being the best team with the arrogant grin.
Saw a van decked out on the way to work and couldn’t help a wanker comment.
Always follow up with how many games have you done this season.......ohh the look of horror.

I do know a few Liverpool fans down here that go thus can tolerate them and they get the loyalty and respect factor of supporting, let’s say a less fashionable club.
Even they despise the football tourists.

SKY and pub football has contributed to more and more of these engineered fans.

The father in law is a Liverpool fan and he’s from Wallsend. He’s been to one game in his life and depending on whether the mags do well or whether Liverpool do well decides who he’s going to support that particular week after the matches. He’s a prick.

Supporting both of The Entitled is quite an achievement.... he will obviously have a lot more days as a Liverpool fan than as a Mag

So this isn't about where you are from, it's supporting a successful team that you have no other connection to other than choosing them as your football team.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with choosing a team that isn't close to you, if you think otherwise you need to leave your small town for once in your life and accept not everything is "us and them". The problem is people "supporting" a successful team they randomly chose due to success who would lose interest if the same team dropped down two divisions. It's the same lot who don't follow football yet during World Cups are suddenly England's number one fan.

Small world, my uncle lives in Battle.

I actually live in a village a bit outside.

Amazingly it turned out that my daughters/son in laws neighbour is an old MLF & he was surprised when I sent them match pics to show him.

Could that be yr uncle?

Does he live in a road beginning with “ I” ?

That does my f***ing nut in, people last year who are normally more interested in Corrie than football suddenly trying to discuss with you the merits of 3-5-2 as opposed to 4-4-2

Fuck off man

It’s shameful when young kids in the north east support Liverpool, Utd and city et al. However believe me it’s much worse if some sort of Kevin Keegan lead revolution happens up the road and all those young kids decide to jump on the bandwagon and are now middle aged plastic mags. The only comfort is once they jumped on the wheels fell off and they’ve won fuck all

Live outside of Bristol, should see the f***ing twats round here man, pub was chocka with plastic scousers and spurs. There’s even daft fuckers who go to city games, will come out to watch another team, wearing that teams shirt. Makes me f***ing sick. Then you get the few token mags who try to give ya a bit grief. Fuck off daft c.unt, you nar fuck all.

It really isn't.

They're just as much a glory hunter as someone from Cornwall who supports Liverpool.

If everyone from Wigan supported Wigan, they might be more successful than they are.

May not be Battle where he lives, he lives just off Battle Road, new estate opposite/near the golf course

I agree. If there’s some connection with another club - maybe they were the first team you saw on tv or something as a kid - then that’s fine. But when someone flits between two clubs depending on which one is winning more games, it’s pathetic.
