Liverpool fans not from Liverpool

I'm from Liverpool and don't have a Scouse accent. My parents emigrated to do their post grads at Liverpool Uni then stayed.

Naturally like most kids my accent is closer to my parents' than anything. Then, due to my dad's job, we spent spent a fair bit of time travelling arond so I kinda developed that weird transatlantic accent kids in international schools do. Throw in the last 10 years living and working in London and my accent is a mongrel mess; but not Scouse.

Get pulled up on it all the time in football conversation. Usually by the type of person who actually thinks Liverpudlian say la in opposited to, say, lid, calls the football team 'Pool' :)mad:) and for some reason thinks cars with hubcaps rather than alloys have been a thing these last 20odd years.

Still, can't win them all.

what joy do these plastic idiots get from being a glory hunter?
Just seen several people interviewed at the parade, not one of them was a scouser

You may as well support France or Brazil at the next World Cup!!!

Sad bastards IMO

You've answered it in your quote. They get joy from watching a team that wins things. A lot of them probably were kids when Liverpool used to dominate the league.

If you’re a true fan you support your team through thick and thin. Where were all these bastards hiding when Roy Hodgson was in charge ?

Winning things is only part of the experience though.

If it wasn't, nobody would support a team that never won anything.

That's something that the glory hunters will never understand.

Totally agree. But fact is, some people follow the clubs that are successful. Will always be the case.

In years to come Man City will benefit in the same way (they why stick now for not selling tickets but in the future it will be stick for tourist supporters and glory hunters).

I've said for years that I wish we had some glory supporters. Would mean we've achieved something.

I’ve a colleague at work from Kent with absolutely no association with the city of Liverpool whatsoever other than deciding he would support them in the 80s.
Tries to lord it over those of us who support our own teams but I just won’t have it - plastic twat
I live in Kent, it's hot bed of 'never even beens' fair few Mags n'all....

One girl replied to my Facebook after I said it was a shite match....already changed her profile pic to her in a scouse shirt....'wake me up when your (spelt wrong) back in the premiership' I asked her what the fuck we had to do with a piss poor match in the 'champions' league, and why was she suddenly crowing about football....

I was consoled about the playoffs yesterday with a “I am an Arsenal fan, I feel your pain. We got hammered in Baku”

Were you there? No
Have you been to see Arsenal this season? No

Go away pal, you have no idea

When I went to uni there was a lad who was a liverpool fan. Or so we thought. Partway through second year some of his mates from home came up and revealed that he was a man u fan all his life. Something about moving miles away from his hometown made him change from United to liverpool  we still struggle to get our heads around it nearly 10 years later

I’ve never said that. I said have an association with the community a club represents
I don’t. I used to visit my grandparents in Consett/Stanley and apart from for trips to the football (which consist of walking from the car to Croziers, then to the stadium and back to the car) I’ve never been to Sunderland.

If I'm glory hunting, I'm either playing a long game or I've really fucked up

No family links to the area, nothing but the football

I've got a mate (from North Tyneside, who was born in Glasgow but moved to England before the age of 1) who claims to be both a Celtic and Man Utd fan depending on his mood. He's never seen Man Utd play in the flesh although he has got to the occasional Celtic game. He's about as Scottish as Frank Bruno

Big Frankie McBruno eh?

You just said it - visit your grandparents in Consett

I better hope we never win anything or at least I never get interviewed. :(:(

One of my pate hates - In fact I can’t stand it. Can’t understand it at all. Family links are fine but we all know most of them are glory supporters with no ties to the club whatsoever.

Tragic

When I was at Wembley last week. I met Sunderland supporters from all over the shop. Are you only allowed to support the team where you are born ?

Not the same as most of them will be glory supporters (Liverpool that is not ours of course)
