Litmus test now to see if Hughton is genuinely a "dignified" and good man...

He hasn't made the best of starts, like. One of his players assaults a defenceless fellow professional on a field of play with absolutely zero provokation and after admitting he has seen precisely what the rest of us have, he doesn't condemn it, he defends and dismisses it.

Very poor reaction from the player's manager. Dignified men do not protect cowards and bullies.

Agree with this. He should show some balls and stop insulting everyone's intelligence.

Truth is that Hughton is a yes-man on his one and only big pay day as a manager.

If he left would another PL club want him? No chance at all.

But surely rule number one from the Alex Ferguson Book of Football Management is never to say anything negative about your players, even when the situation warrants it. Do you honestly expect Hughton to say that Barton is a thug who should serve a lengthy ban for this?

These things happen in the game and are dealt with - and we all move on.

Agreed he should get with the program and condemn Barton's behavior, but I don't think he's "on his one and only big pay day as a manager". He's easily as good as the likes of Holloway or MMc.

These things happen all the time at nufc and are ignored - and we all move on until the next time

Tidied for ya.

Aw, diddums, is that mean FA hurting yor li'l Joey?

Why not just say "Joey was provoked but acted in an inappropriate manner and is disappointed with himself"?

He is putting his own name in the corner of a player who has basically disgraced himself and his club. Hughton admits he saw the same as everyone else, yet he dismissed it as something that "happens all the time in football involving all players". He is lying to us all, insulting the intelligence of us all, and endorsing what amounts to criminal behaviour. Do you consider that the actions of a dignified man?

Are you actually suprised?

We're talkin about nufc here...

Club motto - Defend the indefensible then sweep it under the carpet...

I am not surprised in the least, but those who have championed Hughton as a dignified man, both Sunderland and Newcastle fans, may.

This is the same manager whom when the clubs number nine broke the club captains jaw was seen to almost defend it by his silence on the matter...

Was Carroll actually punished by the club does anybody know...

This is apoint I have made too in previous debates about Hugton's public perception. He backed the player with the bandaged hands, not the one with the broken jaw.

Difference is Fergie would rocket him in private, Hughton wont imo

Seems to be a bit to much player power at Newcastle imo

Must admit that I expected better of him.
Won't be wanting to rock the boat with his contract still up in the air, but you're right Captain, its not particularly clever

Hughton = Obama

Looks the part, says the right things, weak as piss.

Due to your B&W leanings you'll have all kinds of responses to this, doesn't make you any less right though.

Hughton has said what most managers would say in that situation. Its all abit disappointing but I dont think Hughton is any more guilty than the rest of them.

I wish our own manager would show a bit more diginity with regards to referees.
