I haven't used solid but liquid is very clean - I don't get dust everywhere. Not sure on the cost as Simpsylass (no) bought it for me but doubt the differential would be a game changer.

Less faff and I prefer the feel of proper chalk. Stinks as well

I found the alcohol in the liquid chalk dried my hands and made them more susceptible to cracking, which isn't ideal.
