He's a very very interesting signing. Poyet loves him and Poyet has given me many reasons to trust his judgement. But, this is the premier league. It's a hard one and no-one else seems to have been interested in him. Of course, I hope he'll be great for us. I'm glad Catts hasnt gone, just in case.
good post, Sprout

So I found this on Squawka
Bad Debuts
Liam Bridcutt (-6)

Ok, so this one is harsh. Thrust into the intensity of a Tyne-Weir derby, and in a central midfield position to boot, Bridcutt was solid in his opening match for Sunderland. Typically for a derby, the match was not one for football purists, and left Bridcutt’s pass completion rate at a lowly 74%. Elsewhere in the Sunderland midfield, Ki secured a pass accuracy of 97%.

Squawka is worse than the f***ing chronicle man. Only do match reviews based on stats, not on watching the game. Same article had Newcastle dominating the second half when they couldn't dominate a lame horse the smelly twats.

Stats are for twats who don't understand game. Bridcutt is a good player and will probably improve even more as he settles in.

Like goals scored by a striker instead of evaluating his overall impact on a game? I agree!

Him and Ki can make the beach look like a pond. Calm is not a enough word for them.[DOUBLEPOST=1391480802][/DOUBLEPOST]
In him and Ki (if we sign the lad) we have a Central Mid for 5 years to come that I wouldnt even trade for Man. United or Chelsea.

Let's not get carried away

anyone got or read that quote where poyet says he would sign bridcutt even if he was manager of barca? said he was the best player in the world in his position?!

Our Scottish Franz Beckenbauer !
A well impressive debut.
Granted, not against exctly impressive opposition, but it was clear to see the type of role GP wants him to play.
Gave Ki and Jack especially a new lease of life; never seen him so attack-minded!

He reminds me a bit of Jeff Whitley.

If he had played like Bridcut on Saturday he would have been panned.

Shows how football has changed in ten years.

Very impressive the way he stepped into a Premiership side and more than held his own ... wasn't even phased by it being a big derby either. Speaks volumes as to his ability and his temperament.

I watched Sky sports last night and I thought Carraghers observations were spot on, you can see why Gus wanted him here ;)

Stats are turning analysis of the game into a farce. Geeky people with little understanding of the game who are unable to form an opinion based upon what they see.

I don't mind the odd one being chucked in to support arguments but websites like that squawka (sp) and opta for example just vomit numbers all over the airspace and it makes for really tedious reading.

I think stats are a very useful part of todays game, however the major issue with them is they can be manipulated to suit any agenda in the world.

Wish I could 'like' this more than once!!
