Let's discuss the Monarchy

Ok

I think the royal family is a magnificent institution held in the highest respect throughout the globe. The outpouring of grief from every corner of the globe just proves that the whole world has joined us in mourning for a dedicated selfless lady who will be a miss to everyone

As macron said “to the English she was the queen of England, to the French she was THE queen”
" Why do you hate Britain so much"

It's time we have a real discussion on getting rid or cutting them way back. The world has changed and we've just lost the only one of them most people liked, although I think there is a massive rewrite going on it's as if people forgot how massively hated the queen was during the whole diana thing, didn't she get booed or some such as she came out to see the flowers etc. Alot of people held her responsible for the way she supposed to have treated the people's princess.

If that's your argument then you haven't got one.
Nothing bizarre about knowing there's going to be a shit ton of taxpayers money wasted whilst simultaneously being warned of financial doom.
The cost of the funeral will be a drop in the ocean tbf and, because of how humans are, will probably generate more income than it costs.

Pretty clear, given the reaction to the much loved lady's death, that there won't be a republic soon and 1200 years of history will prevail.

The history associated with the monarchy is mind blowing.

Elizabeth II stands alongside historical icons like William the conqueror, Richard The Lion Heart etc. as previous monarchs. Unbelievable really.

Do people like Queen Elizabeth or do people like the monarchy though, it's a big difference.

It's much easier for people to be emotionally attached to someone like her as she comes across as a genuinely nice person and hasn't done anything wrong. The rest of the royal family don't have that as much, not to mention they're a king which is a red flag for some aswell. There's some genuine arseholes in the Royal Family atm, Prince Andrew in particular and Harry isn't particularly a shining knight in armor either. She was the only one keeping it together, without her there's not much for people to ignore it anymore.

You're never going to get an accurate appraisal of someone when they die. That's universally the case for anyone. Even people who were uniformly seen as real wrong 'uns get a brief "shouldn't speak Ill of the dead" statute of limitations from some.

Not dissimilar to the phenomenon that average football players are never better than when they're on the bench.

Interesting that you used two of the biggest shithouses in British history to draw your comparison.

She wasn't "hated" then, but her judgement was being questioned widely.
She felt it more important to protect the Boys in Balmoral than bring them to London.
And no, she wasn't booed. She was greeted with a silence, but was cheered by the time she went back in to the Palace.
Small points, but important.
