Let's discuss the Monarchy

I've not tried to get anyone to lose their job over my feelings about it mate, unlike yourself, so I wouldn't say you're the best placed to go around performing tests on people's emotional state

How could you?

Unless a prominent academic working for a university has come out with vitriolic and disgraceful words in support of the royal family?

This

If someone doesn’t like the monarch they can just ignore it

It’s not like they affect our lives that much

I suppose it gives some a focal point for all that they love about this country and others a focal point for all that they hate about their own lives, I suppose they need someone to blame
When a ridiculous amount of taxpayers money is about to be spent on the funeral and coronation at the same time as you and I are being forewarned of a pending financial crisis I'd say it does affect our lives?

A 96 year old lady who was a mother a grandmother and great grandmother has died. That’s sad in any circumstances and shouldn’t be disrespected.
The monarchy is a ridiculous out of date institution and we should take this opportunity to end it and stop all funding from tax payers. None of them will starve and we can move on to a more modern democracy and start to mend some of the divides in the UK.
I agree with the sentiment and would normally be shouting for a referendum, but I really don't think this is the time.
The country is divided and toxic enough, throwing this into the mix as well would be really poisonous.

How much is it going to cost you?
It never is, is it?

Never the time.
I’m not sure there ever is a time for the silly little petty insults he spouted

Giving up a normal life to put herself in the shop window, which is how her whole life has been. That certainly deserves anybody's respect.
Add to that a figure of hatred from a vocal minority and I'd rather drink a bucket of vomit than have lived her life.
You have no idea what her life was like other than what you perceive through the media.

Oh aye an actual referendum would be poisonous

I don't think there should be another referendum on anything until some sensible adults draw up the rules

Eh?
I'm talking about her lack of privacy, her lack of normality. You might need a tabloid to tell you how things are but that doesn't apply to all of us.

You are, get a grip ;)

I'm not an out an out republican and don't despise the monarchy. Outside of the senior Royals however there are a lot of very privileged people living very comfortable lives. Maybe I'm being short sighted and don't give these people credit for charitable work they do but that's probably because nobody has actually told me. The Duke of Westminster is an example. A 30 odd year old worth £10 billion and owns most of the affluent buildings in London, handed to him on a plate. That 90p becomes a lot of money when it's added together and could be put to very good use elsewhere, especially when the Duke of Westminster is capable of contributing a lot more than that.
I’ll do it for 1p a head.

No, you'll be paying for an elected head of state, with no power, and bringing no tourist dollars or pounds from around the world.
Great idea that.

In fairness I used to say the tourism thing but it probably wouldn't make much difference tbh. You could even make more if you opened up Buckingham Palace. The Palace of Versailles is one of the most popular tourism attractions in the world and Paris hasn't exactly been affected by not having a monarchy anymore.

Stuff like the Horses Guard etc could still easily be done as a tourism piece.
