Let's discuss the Monarchy

But you are by accepting that you are a subject of the King rather than the citizen in a republic.

Would you feel honoured to meet the King?
Didn't feel honoured when I did meet him mate, or either of his brothers, or his sister. I was gracious and polite as is only good manners, and I was pleased to have the experience, but honoured is not the word for it. That would indicate that I would feel subserviant, which I'm not.

When you don’t have an answer, just claim the other person is wound up and post loads of smileys. The last resort of the numpty
I just find that the best way of conversing with certain people on here, is to force myself to lower the literacy level to equal theirs.
Not easy, but I do try.

If we had a President as Head of State wouldn't that amount to a very similar thing .

I'd rather not have a monarchy tbh - but as its obvious I'm in a minority- not much point getting too excersised by it

Like I say bigger fish / lower hanging fruit to fry / pick
My preference would be a written constitution and the role of an elected head of state is to ensure that the constitution is followed. I would also prevent them from interfering with laws to their own advantage and being legal tax dodgers.

Love that you’ve typed this but had to edit your post
No idea what you mean marra. Looks ok to me.😉

We have an elected Prime Minister marra.
Would you trust that fucker to ensure the constitution was followed?

No - I don’t trust the faker to pay tax either.
However we don’t have a written constitution so that’s a big part of the problem. I would make the head of state an apolitical role - no connection with any political party. You can keep the King but he has to obey the law like everybody else, doesn’t receive any state funding and it’s up to the church if they want to keep him as head. Another benefit is separating the church from the state.

We have the Magna Carta.

"Magna Carta was issued in June 1215 and was the first document to put into writing the principle that the king and his government was not above the law. It sought to prevent the king from exploiting his power, and placed limits of royal authority by establishing law as a power in itself."

Well Charlie boy doesn’t break the law as far as I am aware - he just interferes with it so he gets exemptions to it. Which even you must agree is not right.

Mate, no, it's not right. But all people in positions of power exploit situations. Politicians, Businessmen, CEOs of multi nationals. It's just a fact of life marra.

An apolitical elected HOS is just not going to happen. Even people who claim no interest in politics have a general leaning one way or the other marra.

It would, imo, be change for change sake, with in all probability, a worse outcome than what we have now.

It’s correcting something that isn’t right - you have acknowledged that.
As long as its someone who has never been connected to a party it’s fine. They wouldn’t be making any political decisions anyway.
And whether you agree or not the monarchy is the pinnacle of the whole hierarchy allowing people to believe themselves to be better than others and hence resulting in things like Nadawi believing taxes aren’t for him.

And no bowing when you are made a Knight of the Realm :D

Don't twist my words marra. I did not acknowledge that at all. I said it is wrong for people in authoriy to influence things for their own benefit, and that removing the Monarch and replacing them with an elected HOS would probably make things worse., because most people in authority use it for their own gain.
Nadawi as you mention him, is exactly what I am talking about. Corrupt man in a position of power. Your attempt to somehow align him alongside the Monarch is ridiculous man. That is blame by association. Him fiddling his tax has got nothing to do with the monarchy.
Are you suggesting that he looked at Charles and thought It'll be ok?
In which case, when anybody cheats at anything, it's the Kings fault.

No I’m suggesting a monarchy is pretty much the opposite of a meritocracy. The system which the monarch is head of creates a hierarchy where people believe they are better than others. The monarch gets to game the system to his favor so the people who believe they are below him but above the rest of us also do the same.
It cascades all the way so those in power divide and rule and deflect from their corruption with things like Albanians in boats.

Like I’ve said you can keep your king but remove all his still very significant powers and public funding.

I have to say you are trying to attribute an awful lot of blame for societies corruption to him mate.

So when it cascades down, as in your belief, where does that cascade stop, because at the moment you are suggesting that every abuse of power emanates from him?

I also believe that you are being idealistic in the extreme to believe that anyone wishing to be HOS could possibly be apolitical. Purely by the nature of the post, they would be political just by sticking their hand in the air buddy.

I’m not blaming a person I’m blaming the monarchist system. Although to be fair he is apparently an aloof entitled arsehole.
What’s wrong with setting idealist goals? In my system the position has no political power.

Idealistic goals need to be tempered with a touch of reality mate.
Idealistically, we would go up as Champions this year, and the Mags would get relegated.
You also didn't say where the cascade stops marra, because at the moment apparently, the monarchy is responsible, directly or indirectly, for every abuse of power in this country according to you.
And it would hold political power, and you would need to be ultra idealistic to believe otherwise mate.
