Let's discuss the Monarchy

The monarchists don't want any debate at all. They want to shut it down completely. The reason is having a discussion can only shift opinion in one direction even if it happens slowly at first.
Very true. They will dig their heels in and cling on Until the last second on this issue imo.
I can't imagine the death of even the most successful elected politician getting 1% of the national and world reaction over the past week.

Like what?

I think lots of people have enjoyed it. And like to have a Royal family right now.

But I think 'need' is the wrong term Shirley?
I need a one. Why should I not need a one

Shows how important and how adored she was then.

It might not change it but it would save a lot of money.
What is your estimate for the total cost of this last week for security, pomp and crashing the little symbols together?
No idea. Neither have you. Is it outweighed by revenue generated? Where did those millions of people in London eat, drink ,sleep? In restaurants, pubs, cafes, shops, b anb b's, hotels. How did they get there? Fuel duty, public transport, taxis etc.
How many are going to go back again to visit the landmarks they have seen?

You just cannot quantify it mate. Your argument suits your narrative, but it doesn't make it right.

I'm all for letting them live like they do with titles etc. But let them fund it themselves. If they are cash-positive as we are so often told then we don't need to pay them anything from our hard-earned taxes. Also, let them pay their fair share of income and corporation tax and pay for their own funerals and house repairs - you know, like we all have to. Then there woudln't be a problem.

The poor sods on the streets that I have seen do not have such luxuries.
There are also plenty of families that I with others am working hard to help stay warm this winter in our village of only 2,000 odd people.
Perhaps they can come round to yours and you can feed them and keep them warm if you feel that strongly.

That’s a fact as well - well worth discussing.

We Can’t have a society with true equality of opportunity with this system where different laws apply to different sections of society.
That bit also goes against the Universal declaration of human rights which is enshrined in Uk law as the UK is a signatory of the ECHR. Which in turn was proposed by Churchill and largely written by British lawyers.

How does that effect your vote making no difference?
Lack of desire to change the status quo.

Look at the number of leading politicos that went to private schools and Oxbridge. Helped the ordinary people of this country no end eh?

Poor Prince Andrew wasn't allowed to dress up in a bonny uniform.

Not really mate, as the Monarchy doesn't really make decisions outside of the family.
I'm assuming that a presidential role would be the same. It would just be a beauty pageant every 5 years or so for whoever was the most popular on facebook or tiktok or whatever. Proper class like.
Yeah but what I mean is I can’t imagine a politician setting up things like the princess trust and all that kind of stuff they are just in it for themselves

Several do. How many go to yours?
I also put in hours and hours of volunteering time helping put in procedures and finding funding to ensure that people stay warm and fed this winter.

I will be paying for my own funeral and I am not rich, far from it.
Yet one of the wealthiest families in the world get theirs paid for.
Why is that OK?
None, I tend to look after my own first in a selfish way. But no one will starve this winter.
Well done you for being selfish, and also honest enough to admit it.

I agree totally mate. But republicans don't want to talk about stuff like that. Thats just not fair, as it goes against the nasty, wealthy, entitled, better than us narrative.
To mention that would have to give Charles some credit, and thats just not fair.

OK, so let's not forget in that case Prince Andrew's Trust. The £12 (ish) million that was paid to him by his mother to clear his name in a sexual abuse civil case.
Tell me.... did she earn that money working on the till in Tesco?
