Let's all laugh at Crystal Palace

And you were doing so well ..........

Would you be prepared to stick £100 on that?
On a hypothetical situation? I'm still clinging on to the hope we've got a top class midfielder and a striker coming in. Wickham was our top scorer last season though..

Precisely, I keep seeing people claiming he'll score a bundle at Palace based on guesswork.

If we were signing a 'striker' with an identical record I'd bet many would be predicting total failure.

9 million is a pitiful amount considering we ll end up paying 12 million+ for someone like Rhodes. I m not a huge fan of Wickham, but with the silly money banded about for players with no experience of the prem, we've just acted like a teenage girl who's just been fingered off one direction, acting all excited and thrilled cos someone wants one of our players.

I'm basing it purely on him having scored more last season and Palace having far more creativity in their side.

Not if he continues to play the way he has ........ it's a big risk imo.

I wouldn't be too thrilled if we were paying £9 million for someone with his record, in the prem, over the last 4 years.

If he can't take the centre forward role of the likes of Graham then you have to question his determination.

I don't know how many people you interviewed, during your research, but you somehow missed me.

For the record I'm delighted to see him out of the club after years defending him.

There's no sour grapes, I just don't have any faith that he'll ever have the heart to fulfil his potential.

That may change at Palace but, for whatever reason, he's made no progress at Sunderland and I can't see that changing.

So, for me, it's a yes because Sunderland are making no progress and Wickham is part of a team that keeps landing in the relegation clarts.

Unless we make some radical changes how can we ever get further up the table?

I doubt those claiming he'll hit double figures will be putting any money on it .......... will you?
Nobody since Henderson has made progress at this club though, players seem to come here and go stagnant for reasons unknown. In essence I agree with you in saying he isn't developing so get rid, but there must be reasons why that happens when players come here? I'm actually guttered as I thought we signed a future England star.

If he had the guts & application of a 'Dean Windass' he'd be unstoppable and worth a fortune.

Windass was a midget, compared to Wickham, but I'd back him to win more headers even now.

The difference is that Windass had a 'home style' haircut and a face you could split logs on. He'd never think twice about shoving his face into a flying boot or an elbow and he'd go anywhere to get a game of football, his last 3 clubs were non-league ......... Wickham, by contrast, doesn't need to worry about risking his hairstyle & make up because he's already made more money than Windass ever did.

Once he finishes playing he'll never be seen in football again ....... he doesn't seem to have any love of the game whatsoever.
People said that about James Beattie.

Im not going to laugh, I reckon they will finish higher than us and are certainly making more progress (signing soft lad apart)

Rhodes would score more than Wickham man!!

The meltdown on here if it was the other way round would be tremendous

As is normal on this board a player has to be either brilliant or rubbish.

Wickham is still a relatively young player whose progress has been slower than we would have hoped and he maybe seems from the outside to be guilty of acquiring all of the rewards of massive success before he has actually achieved that success but that's not really his fault. All he is really guilty of is failing to quite deliver on the promise he showed as an 18 year old but i'm sure at some point he probably will.

If it's going to be at another club then that's a bit of a shame especially while we seem to be awash with older strikers who have shown far less promise but i guess sometimes players are sold to allow a bit of wiggle room in the transfer market to bring in new players who are hopefully going to make us stronger.
