#LetGirlsPlay

People are completely missing the point here, it's about school PE lessons not if you know a girl/woman that played for a club team.
As a head of PE all girls in my school do football, however I sympathise with schools. It’s a tough choice to map a curriculum which includes as many sports and activities as possible. Only 38 weeks in a school year, only 9 4 weeks blocks + 2 weeks or 6 6 week blocks + 2 weeks. It’s not easy to cover every sport/activity.

Some statistics.

63% of schools offer girls the chance to play football as much as the boys in P.E. It’s 72 per cent in primary school, but 44 per cent from Year 7 onwards.

The FA expect 75% of schools to provide equal access by 2024.

The % of secondary schools offering girls the same access to football via after-school clubs as boys is 40%

#letusplay infers they aren't allowed.

That's evidentially a load of bollocks designed to create a narrative that they are fighting against something.

Like I said, I have female family who have played football to high levels. My family know Jill Scott, England International.

Little girls have all the opportunities that little boys have in kids football. My neice plays in a mixed team and has for years. She's just a bairn.

There is no lack of opportunity. Nobody is stopping girls from playing football. It's a marketing ploy that will cause division and slow down progress.
Wey man of course they don't have the same opportunities.

They have more than they used to mind. How.many lasses school football teams do you reckon Houghton Kepier has got instance? Baring in mind there's a lads team in every year. How much football do the lasses do in PE and who trains them?

Is the demand there though? Do enough girls actually want to play? I honestly don't know.

The state of this post

“Well I know some people who play football, so it can’t be true”

So you have examples of where women aren't allowed to play football I'd imagine?

How many of the lasses want to play? Any stats on that mate?
It's true. Some of them aren't allowed to play at school. My daughter is one of them.
Which school mate?

The figures were posted above but here is the link anyway:

Girls only get to play as much football in PE as boys in 44% of English secondary schools
Turns out all these fat women you see in Asda were actually potential Lionel Messis, but the evil patriarchy was stealing their football boots in the night and replacing them with chocolate digestives, the sly Devils.
What a bizarre post.

Why do you think that is?

Is there a demand for women's football at secondary level? Do you expect it to be the same as boys?

No is the answer.

I can't believe we have men who know fuck all about women's football on this forum trying to say that girls are up against it and aren't allowed to play. It's nonsense.

I can’t believe we have people using the experiences of their family and extrapolating it to the entire country

You are being daft again. You do this when you try and shoehorn your "its political correctness gone mad" schtick.

Girls often have no pathway to play in a school team. How the heck is that being given the same opportunities as lads?
