But at secondary school I bet football wasnt part of her PE curriculum? My daughter plays football for a team and there are a lot more teams for girls to play football, but I still think most secondary schools don't have football as part of girls PE...which is what Ian Wright is talking about
I don't know to be honest as she went to St Anthony's and I went to St Aidan's.

My eldest plays for two age grades U9 and a U8 team. She’s football daft.

There are loads of girls teams now. Think they’ve got 14 girls teams at her club.

It’s just exploded in terms of participation and it’s great to see
This. My daughter's club has an absolute load of teams now. She loves it.

The two should not be compared. Girls and women should be allowed to forge their own way in football without unfair comparisons to the men's game.

That is what has held back women's football for the last two decades in my humble opinion.

I don't think shouting inequality and making unfair comparison is the way to progress the women's game. Instead, show how good you are.

The lionesses are doing this and succeeding fantastically.

Let's not make the girls grassroots game all about playing the victim. It gives off the wrong message and its bad for progress. Let them shine.
If some schools are stopping girls playing football and that’s being highlighted I’m not sure how it can be interpreted as “playing the victim”.

Who is playing the victim though?
#letusplay infers they aren't allowed.

That's evidentially a load of bollocks designed to create a narrative that they are fighting against something.

Like I said, I have female family who have played football to high levels. My family know Jill Scott, England International.

Little girls have all the opportunities that little boys have in kids football. My neice plays in a mixed team and has for years. She's just a bairn.

There is no lack of opportunity. Nobody is stopping girls from playing football. It's a marketing ploy that will cause division and slow down progress.

Apart from a significant number of schools…

Think Barnsley as an area must be way ahead of some places on this. Thought Ian Wright was talking garbage the other night as for years here girls get the same opportunities in schools and the community. At my school girls actually get more opportunities as we have ‘girls teams’ at every age which enter local and regional competitions and also teams at every age, which if the girls are good enough they play in those teams too, we have at least one girl in EVERY team.

It's true. Some of them aren't allowed to play at school. My daughter is one of them.
