#LetGirlsPlay

People will of course want to create the narrative that the world is against them but its not true.

Don’t think anyone is saying that. It’s just one specific issue where some girls are disadvantaged compared to boys.

That won’t hold every girl back, but it will have an affect overall.

A lot of people on here keep bleating on about how men’s football is superior.

Adult women can’t compete physically with adult men. But there’s no reason why women can’t be as skilful or adept.

The women’s game is starting to catch up and it will get there quicker if we remove the barriers that reduce the number of girls playing and their ability to develop their game.

I don’t know how widespread it is but It’s definitely true.

My daughter plays u13s for her local mixed team. Some of the boys are fine with her, others won’t pass to her because she’s a girl.

Doesn’t help that during the week when they’re doing footy in PE she has to do netball and hockey.

So she gets less coaching, less practice, and it gives the boys an excuse to pretend she’s inferior.
Who actually stops them? Is it the teachers not wanting then mixed in fear of an incident or are there rules against it. Pretty sure Jill Scott used to play against us in PE and in athletics.

Of course they can. My two cousins played from young lasses for Sunderland then to Newcastle women.

My neice has been playing since she was 4 at the Foundation of Light.

Exactly.

Not sure tbh. I assume it’s just school policy. Or maybe local authority. It’s not true at all schools. Saw a stat suggesting about a third but no idea if true.

Just thinking if a few parents went into the school and asked if they could play it might change, could just be one if those pointless rules they've got in place because it's always been there and now seems like the perfect time to change it with the momentum behind womens football.

girls doing sport past 13/14 is an even bigger issue.

Rylan says they should e as the lads like. He’s well known for his sporting insight.

I imagine that's a whole other reason which also needs addressing, hopefully the positive role models can come from the women's football, cricket and athletics (many other sports too) and move on from kadashians and love Island.

The two should not be compared. Girls and women should be allowed to forge their own way in football without unfair comparisons to the men's game.

That is what has held back women's football for the last two decades in my humble opinion.

I don't think shouting inequality and making unfair comparison is the way to progress the women's game. Instead, show how good you are.

The lionesses are doing this and succeeding fantastically.

Let's not make the girls grassroots game all about playing the victim. It gives off the wrong message and its bad for progress. Let them shine.

They won't ever be as skillful as men (never mind as quick or strong) but dunno why comparisons get brought in. The media don't help with talk of Rooneys goal scoring record being broken.

It is a bit sad that they can't play football at school mind.

Agreed, it's daft and pointless to compare them. And really boring when so many people do it so often.

Who is playing the victim though?

One of the best players in my primary school team was a lass. That was in the early 90s.
But at secondary school I bet football wasnt part of her PE curriculum? My daughter plays football for a team and there are a lot more teams for girls to play football, but I still think most secondary schools don't have football as part of girls PE...which is what Ian Wright is talking about

I’ve a mate who’s head coach at South Carolina university. Adidas signed a $10 million deal to supply the uni with kit. That’s how big it is. Crowds of over 40k every week.
I think it has a lot to do with their traditional draft systems in football (American). The colleges and universities retain professional talent until a certain age and make an absolute fortune from them.

Whereas in Uk the kids who are decent go pro immediately.
