56% of them.

Of course! Your experience as a man is more relevant than women’s.

I WISH MEN WOULD JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LISTEN TO THE WOMEN.

MEN. SHUt THE FUCK UP AND JUST LISTEN TO WOMEN FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIVES. THIS ISN’T ABOUT YOU.

LISYEN TO THE WOMEN. PLEASE.
The majority of lasses I know can't bare to watch football let alone want to play it. Which women are you listening to?

Name me a school that doesn't allow girls to play football? TBH the majority of girls choose not too as most hate sport. When I went to school they did anything they could to avoid PE. Most preferred to just watch the lads the pervs.
There's been a list hoyed up. There's parents on this thread saying it's not an option at their daughters school. @HarrogateMackem confirmed it wasn't at his school.

Girls can't choose not to if its not an option in the first place.
Experience. Might have just been my year group like. Swimming was the worst, a lot of lasses were just permanently on their period. I hope they went to the doctors.

So you've made the judgement based on your year at your school

And again, the movement isn't about girls not wanting to, it's about given the option in the first place marra.

He meant apart from 56% of schools.

How often do kids do PE at school these days?

Not sure how else to say it tbh marra. At just about every school football is an option for boys to play. In over half of schools it isn't for girls (looks like netball is the option instead). Don't think I've ever mentioned playing with the boys.

Also, anti racism isn't a fad for most.

So if only 5 lasses want to play (as the majority don't) what do the school do? play 2 and a half a-side and waste their time????

You watch, schools will be bullied into appeasing, then cancel shortly after, as the girls are just not interested in any worthwhile numbers.

That's an interesting point, and one I also thought about. If the interest isn't there to justify it as an option then unfortunately some may miss out. That's life I guess. But the option in the first place is the talking point here.

Also, you point out most lasses you know aren't interested in watching, never mind playing. Tbh, in my circles, that's exactly the same. However, I wonder which drives what here. There's at least the possibility that more girls would be interested as a spectator if they'd been playing it (would help understanding rules, if they were good at it it's likely to drive further interest etc). Take netball, I think it's crap, and would never watch it. However, perhaps I'd be more interested in it if at school boys had played it regularly?

My daughter played for the school football team but refused to play for the school girls football team due to lack of numbers at both games and training and the standard of the majority of those who did turn up.

I'm just pleased she attended a school that had the option. As has been proven, the majority don't.

Although her attitude is questionable. Lads could apply that rule to not wanting girls to join in with them.

Give the option then demand dictates. That seems fair to me.

On the interest note. Think of India as an example. Boys are more interested in watching cricket than football. Now, do you think it's because Indian boys have a gene that makes them like cricket more than football? Or perhaps do you think it's because cricket is played at every school (football isn't), and they are exposed to cricket much more?

Never mentioned watching. Though going by my household, they hate it. Though my daughter is only 3 ... :)

Are you saying they can't understand the offside rule? because these days most blokes don't, FIFA have messed around with it that much. these days.

She played in the school team on merit, played a year up for a girls team in RFYL and for a boys team in TJFA. Her attitude of wanting to play at the best level available to her should be commended not questioned.

Yep, it’s a virtuous circle. In India cricket is a very accessible sport, so more kids are exposed to it at a very young age, so more people play the game, so there is a bigger pool of players for local and country teams, so there are more successful teams, so more kids follow and are interested, so more things have to be done to make it accessible to even more people, and so the virtuous circle goes. It already happens in England in football for males, let’s hope the past 3-4 weeks kick starts it happening in England in football for females also.

You liked the post that mentioned watching though. The like function is there to indicate agreement.

I'm saying if you play something more, your interest levels will increase, along with understanding etc. Pretty obvious really.

My India example hammers home the point I've been making, and is correct.

Football is a great sport to be involved with. However, schools need to try and include all pupils in PE. Football favours the fitter, nippier players and the slower bigger pupils get left out.

The problem schools will have is a knee jerk response from some attention grabbing politician and they will have to change the thought out PE lessons they've planned over decades.

The main issue is the provision for PE is woeful in the first place.

Did I? I like all sorts of stuff. Even stuff you post. :)

If only I’d realised I had a choice in PE at school and I could have, in fact, just refused to play hockey and netball, and they wouldn’t have forced us to play it. You’re a genius mate. Wish I’d thought of that 30 year ago.

She basically said she doesn't want to play with people who aren't good enough/on her level, at a time we ar looking to increase female participation. At some point that (difference in ability) will always apply when the lads leave the lasses, including your daughter, for dead.

Will we all be entertaining this thread encouraging schools to let girls (and boys) play hockey?? Given the success in the Commonwealth games surely it’s a must?? . . . The decisions of a Head of PE are literally becoming national discussion points.
