What do you mean by diverse?
No. In my daughter’s primary school, playground football spaces are simply dominated by boys. Fair access to kickaround spaces will make a huge difference to their enjoyment of the game. PE lessons and organised teams are less of an issue in the school.

My BIL owns a Sports coaching business that does school PE, wraparound classes, summer camps etc…

For school sports it’s not just about catering to what children want to play or the development of the better players. School sports have to cater for all abilities in the class and predominantly are there, particularly at primary school, to develop gross and fine motor skills. Hence why they do a range of activities that develop different skills.

Criticising a lack of girls football clubs is fair, as would differences at school between boys and girls, but school sports are geared at exercise and developing motor skills as well as teamwork etc…

For what it’s worth schools make a considerable amount (or can) from wraparound and after school clubs so if there is demand to offer girls football clubs I’m sure they would be falling over themselves to

The movement is about schools apparently not allowing girls to play football.
I assume if there is a change in demand then hockey and netball etc will have to take a back seat.
The amount of PE in the school curriculum is the main concern. I thought the playing fields had all been sold off anyway.

It's f***ing pisspoor how underserved most kids are for sport at school. Imagine if we had a sports system for footballers the way the yanks do for their sports
And the option to wrestle or do another form of martial arts. We'd all be git hard and be able to defend our country with our bare hands in the event Rep of Ireland or Iceland decided to invade.

Of course they can. My two cousins played from young lasses for Sunderland then to Newcastle women.

My neice has been playing since she was 4 at the Foundation of Light.

People will of course want to create the narrative that the world is against them but its not true.
Absolutely not true in most areas. I've had an absolute nightmare getting my 5 year old girl into football (she loves it, actually sleeping in her Sunderland kit after getting player of the week tonight). In the Consett area there about 10 boys teams just for her age group, the facilities are fantastic, but girls have been forgotten, up until the last few weeks there was zero girls training, never mind an actual team. Being in a city next to a huge club with amazing facilities, is not the reality for most, hence the need for it be part of a school curriculum.

My little girl is 9 and has played against Consett the last couple of years. They seemed to have a good set-up with enthusiastic coaches, plenty girls in the squad etc and a good side. May not have anything as young as your little un mind (I don't know) but seemed a good club.

Let's be clear here, none of us lads got our footie talents from school. It was from hardwork, although we didn't know it at the time, kicking balls around in the summer mainly and then going on to the local footie clubs. Now in the here and now when I watch this play out there are equal numbers participating and local girls teams all over so not quite sure why the focus is on schools.

I'm quite young, went to an all boys school and couldn't play football in PE. It was Rugby, Athletics, and, for some reason, ultimate frisbee (???). Saying that, I absolutely support the right of every child regardless of sex to have equal access to football.

Good shout, a fair few schools have Rugger as the main principle.

Can’t see it being that low, can you?

Most lads in our year didn’t want to play basketball but we did it anyway

So shouldn’t the hashtag be #makethemplay then?

If young lasses want to be involved in football and play then good on them, it’s a great sport, sure we can all agree.

You can’t force an equilibrium, I seem to recall the majority of girls at my school not wanting to do much P.E. anyway. This was 2002-2007. You can argue part of this was down to societal pressure, hopefully the Lioness’s have gone some way to removing that stigma if that’s the case.

Ultimately though say there’s 4 girls in a class of 30 willing to participate in a football lesson, what do you do? Force the others to do it? They’ll have little to no interest I’d imagine. Let them join in with the boys? Risk of injury heightened, may lose interest if they can’t compete physically…

I’m all for women having an opportunity to play sport of any kind and they absolutely should have as much chance to do so as men.

That message though. It seems as though something’s stopping them, which it isn’t.

My daughter's school have a long way to go. Piss poor effort for the girls compared to the boys. Hopefully can change.

I mean the actual European f***ing Champions have just said that’s what makes a difference. But of course, men know better.
