Leeds vs Villa

I really wanted to post a rant about dirty Leeds cheating.

Having watched the footage on YouTube, sorry, but Leeds did absolute nothing wrong. Villa were grossly unprofessional in not playing to the whistle, I don’t know wtf they were thinking. If I were their manager I’d be tearing into them. Since when does a team stop playing, expecting the opposition to put the ball out for a routine injury?

It’s absolutely crackers that this is even up for debate. Even the bloody commentator was ranting on about how ‘disgusting’ Leeds were?! I don’t know what others are seeing that I’m not.

Villa fucked up, Leeds’ manager did them a favour they really didn’t deserve.

Did you watch the full game mate?

Minutes before Villa had put the ball out to allow a Leeds player receive treatment as he was injured. The Villa lad that went down ended up going off injured. He wasn't feigning injury.

You're wrong imo. It was unsporting.

Are you aware that 5 minutes earlier, Villa played the ball out at the request of Leeds when a man was down and we were attacking?

The lad who played the final ball in his own half almost looks like he's mis hit it. Looks like he's trying to kick it into touch.
Top entertainment regardless.

No, just the highlight showing this event, TBH.

Were the injuries equivalent? Only serious injuries should be considered grounds for kicking the ball out, eg head injuries. We can’t expect the opposition to put the ball out every time a man goes down, it’s ludicrous. The game would be a joke.

Yes, I did know that. It depends on the extent of the injury, IMO, and people were saying the Leeds injury may have been to the head.

I really wanted you to stuff the bastards, btw!

What people? Where? It was a leg injury, clear as daylight. The Villa player ended up being subbed.

I don't think the ball should have gone out for either injury and Hourihane got grief off his own fans when he tapped the ball out so that the Leeds player could receive treatment. That said, it is the players who decide these "unwritten" agreements so the least they can do is stick to them or alternatively, do away with them, as most fans would prefer.

Spot on Marra, it just encourages cheating even more

You make a fair point, I agree. It was a sly trick, but Villa were naive to fall for it. The best thing would be for play to always continue unless the ref blows. Ie stick the the rules religiously. Then there’s no ambiguity, no chance of this kind of thing happening again.

Thankfully, there wasn’t a full on pitch fight over it, and obviously your lad’s red will be rescinded and he’ll take part in the playoffs. Good luck!

Thanks - Although I suspect a fine for failing to control our players is looming.

If the 2 teams manage to get to the final at Wembley, it could be quite interesting. I'm still shocked that such a nothing match was played with such ferocity.

The injury was serious enough for the lad to limp off injured and replaced.

Bamford clutching his face was a disgrace...he should be fined not Villa

When an opposition player suggests that he is going to put the ball out, I assume. Whether or not he did suggest that should be the only debate here.

It isn’t cheating as it isn’t against the rules but it was a proper twat’s trick and grossly unsportsmanlike.

So fuck, the ref decides when the game is stopped. Not some villa scrote.

The ref stops play. Not some arsehole player.

So Villa are on the attack and sportingly put the ball out of playing seeing a Leeds player is injured, (which has been an unwritten rule that is generally abided by within the sport of football since as long as we can remember), then in response when a Villa player is down, Leeds do not recipricate and take advantage of the situation? Get real. We would be absolutely gutted if on the receiving end in a similar scenario. Fortunately the Leeds manager and their players saw sense.

Villa are dicks for putting the ball out on purpose when its the ref that decides play is stopped.

Play to the whistle. Stop trying to be "sporting", and let the ref do his job.

I am pretty sure there is now a written rule that says is up to the ref to stop play...so it should be pretty clear now

The Referee:

...

Injuries

  • allows play to continue until the ball is out of play if a player is only slightly injured
  • stops play if a player is seriously injured and ensures that the player is removed from the field of play.
