Leeds vs Villa

I don't think what Leeds did was wrong in the first place it's supposed to be up to the ref to stop the game if Aston Villa were attacking they wouldn't have kicked the ball out.

Agree, nowt in the rules to say you have to kick the ball out, at least there wasn't last time I looked at the rules. Its voluntary, looked upon as being sporting, but if players did this every time a player went to ground the game would take 3 hours to finish. Its not as though the Villa player was seriously injured. Classic fook up by Villa IMO, not playing to whistle, Leeds used their nous, and Villa were lucky to be allowed to equalise

I hate all this kicking the ball out of play, most of the time the cheating bar stewards are feigning an injury, it is up to the ref to stop a game for an injury and for them to decide how it is restarted.
Which is all well and good unless the player does everything to suggest he is going to put it out and then plays the pass. Which he does.

It’s very close whether the whole thing was offside by the way

Awful.

@benturrrner: Bamford, you are everything wrong with football #avfc #lufc Ben Turner on Twitter

What a tit. He should receive a suspension himself.

That said, what are the officials doing? They quite clearly did not see the incident properly, why then did they make a guess and send the lad off knowing players are trying to con them at every opportunity?

That's fine, but often the refs miss challenges that have caused a potential i jruy, thefore it's up to the players to put the ball put for their team mate or opposition player to receive treatment. It's not a new thing.

I agree with you and I assume that's why the Leeds manager told them to give Villa a goal.

My point is that because it has now become custom and practice, unscrupulous players go down during passages of play that are potentially damaging to their team, to waste time or kill any momentum in games. A few years back, FIFA and the FA issued guidance to referees and clubs to stop this happening but it is now creeping back into the game. thee time or kill any momentum in games. A few years back FIFA and/or the FA issued guidance to referees and clubs to stop this happening but it is now creeping back into the game. The laws of the game state:

INJURIES
  • allows play to continue until the ball is out of play if a player is only slightly injured
  • stops play if a player is seriously injured and ensures that the player is removed from the field of play.

Villa put the ball out for a Leeds injury earlier. Also, the villa Lad was about to tackle the Leeds lad who appeared to motion he was going to play it out. The villa lad didn't tackle and the Leeds lad played the ball forward and they scored from it.
That’s the key point right there, if that hadn’t have happened they would have been ok, but the Leeds player cheated.
Maybe he was still in 2 minds about what to do. It’s unnatural for a competitive player to stop being competitive I suppose

But I think play should always carry on until the ref decides to stop it or ball goes out

Leeds should not have let villa score,

You play to the whistle was not a head injury if. Imagine in other sports if they stopped like f1 because someone crashed in front of ya.

Villa player should have walked for the way he grabbed the Leeds lads.

It is a relatively new thing, it never happened when I played football.

How many times have you seen it at the SOL this season where players trying to see a game out go down and we kick the ball out from an attacking position and the game is restarted with a throw in then kick back to our keeper?

If a someone sees a seriously injured player and doesn't kick the ball out that would be on his conscience and I am sure any reasonable person would do it. However my point stands that it is the responsibility of the referee to stop a game not the players and a few years ago instructions were issued by FIFA and/or the FA to stop the practice and prevent cheating

Exactly, usually stops a counter attack then the team returns the ball by booting it to ya keeper. Thought there was nothing wrong with what Leeds did. Upto villa to keep their whites about them
