Lee Johnson

I am calm. Lee Johnson's tenure at Sunderland played out just as was predicted by fans of his previous clubs. Why we would have expected otherwise was a bit silly. There is enough evidence from his 400 games as manager/head coach to show that he just isn't very good. Yes, he could get players playing decent football for a period but was so easily out thought by opposition managers. What you are suggesting - that he wanted out and gave them an option - is so far fetched that I am sure even you don't believe it.

Separate yourself from this all consuming agenda that Speakman/KLD are to blame for everything and are amateurish/inept etc. and you eally must see that Lee Johnson was a mistake appointment. Speakman'/KLD's biggest error was appointing Lee Johnson. I hope they atone for this with Alex Neil who is a far more suitable appointment.
You’re right I don’t believe it.

I'd ask him a simple question 'Lee, why do your teams always have good runs followed by bad runs. Its happened at Barnsley/Bristol/Sunderland. Why?'
“Thanks 10 Gary Rowells. It’s interesting you ask that question of me and not the hundreds of other managers who go through purple patches followed by bad form. It’s one of those nicknames that has stuck but that doesn’t mean it isn’t also appropriate for lots of other managers. Anyway, thanks for the beer. Your pub personality is superb.”

I think he’d be alright to have a pint with. Id ask him what was the rationale behind the few mistakes he made over and over.

Why did he keep switching to a back four when a back three was clearly working? Did it bother him that the thing that had us winning wasn’t “his” idea but more something he stumbled on due to injuries.

Weird one as he probably deserved the sack but I’m not sure we have ended up any better off.

A very fine post, bertie lad. Is "pub personality" your very own conceptual innovation?

I'd respond by saying 'thanks Lee, but looking at your last 4 seasons, not counting this one, you have got teams into promotion possible positions but then blown it with a bad run of form at the end. Do you not think this may stop you getting jobs with clubs who want promotion'. He'd probably respond with a similar superficial/arrogant answer that you suggested.

Peppermint?
Im not quite sure that is left field enough for our Lee.

I’m a bit torn on the bloke in all fairness, he spoke a lot of waffle so i stopped listening to him. I wonder if the players did the same. I appreciate he tried to do the right thing and was after a style. However when I travelled to Bolton and saw we needed to make changes but he just wouldn’t I wanted to strangle him. I think over the last 3.5 months he was dismantling his hood work early doors. The worrying thing is he’d probably of got 5points from last 3 games.
Oh well what a pity what a shame

Seemed strange to me that Johnson couldn't see his own flaws. Then he should have looked for a solution which presumably would be to hire a really good defensive coach to work alongside him.
The defensive coach that is still shacked up in The Travelling Man?

If there was ever a manager who deserved the moniker "streaky" it's Steve Bruce, and by christ we should know. Strange that not one single poster to my recollection called him that.........

I think the decent football under Johnson thing is a bit of a myth to be honest. For every decent performance there as many bad ones. Even some of the games we won we were crap.
