Lee congerton is the most important signing we've made for years.

Yet to see anyone with any real information about this bloke & what he'll bring.

Loads got excited about the last fraud we had in office

Indeed. So why the rush to judge. All about being able to say 'I told you so' to a group of strangers on the internet I suspect.

i realise that stats don't tell you the whole picture but we need an edge to succeed in any way shape or form, congerton is a stats man and this is what we need, di fanti didn't work but you have to give credit to Ellis short he's created something and is trying to execute a plan which doesn't just involve letting a manager go nuts with your money and often doesn't work.

whatever has happened this season and whatever happens going forward i think he deserves huge credit just for trying something new and not sitting idally by while smaller or similar clubs like Southampton and everton repeatedly outperform us and either produce or buy better talent than we have.
Apparently when do fanti was shown the door it didn't open correctly. I think he had a hand in that purchase as we'll.

Disagree strongly.......we are where we are because we "tried something new"........it's been an unmitigated disaster and all we are doing is putting another layer between what the manager wants and what the manager gets.

The only differnece between this season and the other five at this stage is that we're slightly closer to relegation but have also been on two cup runs. It's probably been our best season in the PL, with the possible exception of when we finished 10th.

The whole PL era has been an unmitigated disaster, which is why we *need* to try something new, unless you're happy with chasing mediocrity in perpetuity

So he may be a good coach. Could be a decent scout. I can accept that.

He has zero track record in a DoF role though, and probably less of a transferable skill set than De Fanti had. Yet he is being hailed as some kind of grizzled and proven DoF whilst his predecessor's lack of credentials lamented.

Find it completely weird.
Well seeing as we're wanting a DOF I'd rather have a football man than an agent. I'll not get my hopes up though.

Define "football man". It's a nice cliche but would hope we had a stricter remit than that. Again, though, we have gone with someone who isn't proven in the role. I'd take a track record over a generic "football man" any day.

Shall we call it the Barelona model instead? That might make people more positive instead of all this 'change is bad' attitude.

Nothing wrong with an 'Udinese model', if that is what people want to call it. It just takes time. We have it six months then declared it a failure.

Precisely. Model was to unearth upcoming talent, DMK, Ba & Whitmore may prove it was working yet.

Could also look at it and ask who from the developmental squad has played for the first team this season? Watmore, Ba, DMK and Mavrias.

Lord Alfred f***ing HATES Lee Congerton like.

Never heard of him before last week.......got nowt against the fella personally......just the role he's being asked to fill at the club I love.

Anyway.....shouldn't you be sourcing additional revenue streams to service your impending liabilities......

Oh come on, lee congerton is not going to be the difference of whether we have success or not. I hope he helps, obviously, but 'the most important signing we've made for years' ? Absolutely not.

He's got a big job on his hands given how many players we are going to need over the summer when all those out of contract/loan players depart.
But it's been like that for the last few years, using loan players is a bad idea, if they're shit then they're shit i.e. Le Tallec, if they're half decent i.e. Borini, Ki , Evans, Wellbeck then they go back to their parent clubs and we have to start looking again, I'd just like us to have a team of half decent players that actually belong to us and want to play for us.
Is that too much to ask?

If we stay up then it will be all change yet again. Would be nice to need a couple of players but realistically we need at least six or seven first teamers. Loan players, out of contract players, past in players, flotsam and jetsam players. We have them all.

Going to be a fun summer yet again. Plus the World Cup will distract everyone for a month as well.

Totally agree mate, we definetly need to get out of this situation of flooding the team with loan players, it's a no win situation for us. At the moment we are looking at needing at least 6/7 first team players for next season and that's before Poyet decides if he wants to persevere with the likes of Fletcher, Giaccherini, Cattermole etc. The problem is to buy all these players you need money, big money. Let's hope this Congerton lad knows what he's doing because he's going to have to hit the ground running.

When you look at things sober and in the cold light of day you can only see massive upheaval this summer. God knows why anyone would want the job of overseeing that but i'll say one thing about Congerton.....IF he gets it right it's a massive feather in his cap.
