Lee Cattermole

I dont think anyone can argue that out of the squad we have cattermole would be the natural choice for captain. For me the club are to blame here, everyone including the club expected cattermole to move on in the Sumner, remember the spat he had with the fans at the hartlepool friendly. The club should have made him captain until they knew for certain he was leaving and then look to appoint a new captain, whether that be honeyman or whoever. Ive nowt against honeyman, he has good games he has bad, but when him and cattermole are on the pitch together its just so obvious who is the better leader, motivator whatever.

Keane had already criticised Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole before the game, saying: 'If you're relying on him, then you're in trouble.'

The pundit's views were were vindicated when Cattermole was at fault for two of the Hull goals.

So who would have been your choice ? Or are you happy with the current arrangements ?
If you are basing solely around Cattermole's future then I wouldn't have named any captain until his future was sorted.
That said, I don't necessarily agree that he needs to be captain. He is the same player whether there is an band on his arm or not
Honeyman, however clearly grows into the role and if it improves his performance on the pitch then where is the harm?

I really do not get the hate for Honeyman on here. It's baffling

Don't care what anyone thinks, but he should be our captain, not that little child who currently is
Agree with you up to the second comma. You really should have put a full stop there and stopped typing. Catts is the best choice we have for captain on the current playing staff, though he has shown in the past he is not a great captain.

As i said before im certainly not a honeyman hater. I agree the club maybe should have held off with the captain decision. What gets me is cattermole has been captain in previous seasons when honeyman was at the club, then all of a sudden he looses the armband to a younger less experienced team mate. I suppose none of us will ever know cattermoles thoughts on this, but if it were me i'd be proper pissed off.

There are several different ways to be a captain. Honeyman has his own way. He leads by example. He appears to be what one might call a "model pro". Cattermole is more combative. Leadbitter keeps a cool head when others lose theirs. McLaughlin is calm & assured as well as organising the back four. O'Nien is an example by his sheer dedication & palpable love of what he does & his obvious appreciation of the club, the fans & the joy & privilege of being a professional footballer. We have various players who demonstrate leadership qualities both on & off the pitch. Rather than bicker over who has the circle of cloth round his bicep, we should be rejoicing in the fact that we have, in relative terms, an abundance of riches. In the near past, we were crying out for players who showed such an appetite for the game. We have them now, so let's give thanks for that. Amen.

Club legend? So we just forget the past and base it on this season?

He’s been good for us this season. He’s led without the armband and he’s chipped in with some goals.

But let’s not get carried away man.

Forget about what? His years of service in the Premiership? He's been a decent player for us. What did we pay? £4m?

Your an absolute embarrassment using this as a reason to bash Honeyman.

It was Honeyman and Ross who supported Grant before the game, and who immediately went over to Grant after the game.

This isn’t taking anything away from Cattermole and the support he has given Honeyman this year as a senior player, but to use this as a reason to have a pop at Honeyman wouldn’t be appreciated by Cattermole or Grant.

He is, fuck you talking about?

If people like Gary Bennett and KevinBall are legends than why isnt Cattermole

so much hate on this board for 10 years in the top flight.

LEAVE MY BEAUTIFUL CATTS ALONE.

Do you not reckon that he's a bit older
and wiser, now marra?

Catts hasn't been Captain since 2013 so there is no "losing the armband to...."

He lost the armband to O'Shea when PDC was manager
