Lee Burge get out of this club!

I get the argument but at the same time Coventry moved away from him because they thought they had to to get better. We signed him as second choice and then didn’t look to strengthen the keeper position when McLaughlin left. I do feel like we have weakened ourselves needlessly and I don’t see how rolling with a player we signed to be second choice is wise.
If we can get better we definitely should absolutely no argument from me, I think finding better as a league 1 club is the problem as not many (if any) decent mid table Championship keepers or better would drop down to our level. As I said I think we were spoiled a bit with McLaughin as he was head and shoulders better than any other keeper in this league.

With the possible high turnover of players his summer if we start next season with Burge in goal and add a quality centre half (I would love to see Sanderson back next season) and a powerful fast midfielder to play instead of Scowen/Dobson/Winchester/Power and a 25-30 goal forward who can play on the shoulder of the last defender I think we will go up.

That would be harsh, given that lad's arms were down by his sides. Nowt wrong with the goal from a legitimacy perspective.

Rules are different for goals. It's disallowed even if a hand is involved in creating or scoring the goal, even if it was accidental.

Maybe mate. I accept keepers make mistakes and especially at this level but at the same time you need someone who’s consistent over a 46 game season. I don’t see how we can carry someone that looks like he plays with no confidence and looks like he can go off a cliff mid season. Got to remember he got dropped for Matthews too.

If we can get a keeper that is good enough and can grow with the club and potentially play for us in the championship if we go up then that’s something we should be looking to do.

Flanagan at fault for both goals - terrible backpass but Burge could have kicked it out and not straight at the player.

However he did keep the score down with 3 very good saves. We're simply not good enough full stop. From the manager down it's lacking ideas and the players look like they've already signed contracts elsewhere - particularly Charlie Wyke last night.

Completely agree that we do and don't think Burge is a very good keeper at all. However, I'd blame both goals yesterday squarely at Flanagan's door.
it is possible for there to be 2 or more players to blame.

flanagan gave a very poor pass back so was to blame. Burge kicked the ball directly at the scorer with force, when he should have just kicked it out for a throw in or even a corner. 2 of them to blame

But he booted the ball straight at an oncoming player.... 🤦‍♂️ he could have hit the ball either side, but no. He's a shite keeper.

bye bye Wyke... 🙏

Pure regression isn't it.

Anyone who thinks Burge will be in Goal next season needs to see the bookies odds.

No full backs?

Yeah that's what i was saying, he should have kicked it out sideways away from the onrushing player.

He is a poor but they all are. He did make a few good saves and the first goal was an excellent save to be ridiculously let down by his defenders heading the ball away like 5 yr olds. I can't see anyone who we should keep next year.

Yup not even trying to address it. Think most people on here said it at the time when we signed Matthews.

Matthews was a shocking signing too. I'm not saying young Patterson is the answer but he could have done what RM has, probably without making an error every time hes been on the field too. We need to be making signings that improve the starting 11, the GK choice this summer has to be a solid one because this season has been a farce.

Cost us many points this season and now shot us in the playoffs. He's a bench warmer at best. Desperate for a solid stopper who can organise a defence.
Which games has he cost us points in? I can think of one game where a tame shot he deflected over the line, cannot remember if it cost us or not. actually that may have been Matthews, who lost us 3 points in his single game

Bristol R (h) - conceded a pen in the third min after failing to hold a really routine shot. Ended 1-1
Hull (h) - dropped a corner from which they scored. Ended 1-1
Blackpool (a) - Let a dibby-dobbler through his legs. Ended 1-0

Thats without even putting any effort in to remember either, theres a fair few more.

There was one place he could have kicked it which wiuld have resulted in it rebounding straight back to the goal and he chose it. Ffs, kick it left, kick it right but not the one place which resulted i a goal. I have said all season, the keeper is absolutely fooking horrendous.

We signed him to be number 1 anarl imo. Parky was itching to get him into the team.
