The point is rocky me old mucker..improving from rubbish suggests he shouldn't have been playing in the first place...what is the obsession with the bloke...? Gets stuck is my bet!!
We're a better side when he's in it. It would take one thick fucker to not be able to see that. Also he shouldn't have started because he started off poorly? Do you think Sam is some kind of special being who can see into the future?

I think you are conflating a number of arguments...extrapolating an average points return from one player's number of starts over a season is completely different to whether over that season had he been playing whether we would be a ' better ' side.
I agree when he first arrived I was 'quite' excited...but over how many years I know not I have seen nothing that would suggest we should be making him the backbone of our side.
The argument about players around him has been oft made but says more about him than those around him. Waste of space...in a key role he is found wanting...Ki in front of the midfield was wonderful to see...catts protects naff all hence our woeful GA ştat.

For effect rocky.
I didn't see the game so can't comment definitively but by all accounts he was rubbish for the first half....that is not starting off poorly..that is being poor for 50% of the game...
I happened to think we will win more games when we get proper footballers like mvilla and ki 'who bottled it' according to the experts on here in the centre of the park...
But the ssol loves a tryer so you guys keep.on voting for Collins. ..!!

Again, I hate harping on about stats but sometimes they're the only way to support a point; particularly when the argument is 'are we better or worse without X player'.

Of our 37 points last season, 32 came in the 26 or 27 games he played. That's only 5 points from the 10 or 11 he didn't play. Surely that proves a bit of a point (and a points ratio that is fairly consistent with the rest of his time here).

He is a mid table Premier League player playing in a struggling side. Has been since he was 17. He doesn't play enough games for us due to injury and suspension. That's the main criticism that should be levelled at him

He's more than a trier. If you didn't have your preconceived view and actually watched the lad you'd see that.

He was tremendous second half, first half he was awful though, looked devastated when Villa scored, which is good to see in a relegation battle.

No sunderland fan can say we are a better side without him in it.

This has all been debated before.
A leader.
A man.
Not the best technically but makes up for that with heart and passion.

Catts for England......

Ok rocky...stokes i wrote off a little too early..he scored a few goals and I did think am I wrong..turned out he was crap but I did doubt him..However as I mentioned before I loved catts' endeavour when he started...him and cana were immense...I so wanted the guy to do well as I do even the ones of which I have had preconceived views and opinions. Didn't want Leighton James. ..cheat..diver..signed for us..haway Leighton. ....Keane. .couldn't stand the fella as a player..as our manager accepted him and supported him...
I just don't rate catts...sorry like...

What a performance today!

I saw it very differently. Excellent in the final 20 minutes. Dreadful in the first half.

He and Johnson were completely bypassed by the Aston Villa midfield. Cattermole in particular gave the ball away far too often and was easily beaten to the ball on two occasions I can think of.

I like his graft and bite in midfield and we miss it when he's not there, but I thought he was average for the most part today and i just don't get the wankathon for him. He's a limited footballer and if we want to improve on relegation battles every year we need better than the likes of Cattermole
