Le Saux gay taunts article.

Mate, there's something seriously wrong with being a paedophile, which is why that would be upsetting to everyone. And why it is nothing like being called gay.

So, I ask again how would you deal with an individual who continually accuses you of being one (assuming, obviously, that you are not).

Some people should work on their reading comprehension. Or maybe these individuals can't be bothered to read things that doesn't start with a hashtag. #somuchbantz

Fantastic article. Robbie Fowler sounds a right arsehole. I remember when he got sent off at the stadium as he was getting wound up, and murdered by Kilbane. I was only about 14-15, and one of my mates was gay(well..still is) and I felt really embarresed at what we were singing, but was too young to speak up, I'm lucky my Mum and Dad were the best parents in terms of teaching me how normal being gay is.

Surely this will not be an issue now?

With all due repsect, if fans think they can rattle a member of the opposition and put him off his game they will sing anything to do it. The fact he was gay was besdies the point when our lot were singing it.

It doesn't make it right mind.

I remember Chris Waddle becoming rattled in the Sheffiled Wednesday versus Sunderland 4th round cup tie in early 1993 with the maggie reject songs. It was only that day I found out he supported us as a young'un himself.

I'm afraid that the way he describes it all in the article makes the accusations seem like the worst thing ever, which in turn makes it seem like being gay would similarly be the worst thing ever. Which to me doesn't help the situation (either his or actual homosexuals).

I understand that it must have been extremely annoying at the time, and along with the bullying in general, upsetting for a young guy. But now he's an adult, with plenty of experience, and he's looking back on it. He should be able to see how idiotic it all was, and how stupid and pathetic those involved were, but instead he seems to have focussed on how terrible the accusations were. That to me is not helpful at all.

Surely the point is within football being seen as gay is a terrible thing. It shouldn't, but he's right. If everyone had thought he was gay his career would have struggled to progress, with managers not wanting him, he would have been isolated in the dressing room and would have been ridiculed by fans each week, not to mention abuse from players. It's hard to see how being perceived as gay in football (whether you are or not) can be seen as positive, in the climate of the time (and now)...

I don't condone homophobic abuse, and can easily imagine how devastating such hostility could be, but it's also fair to say that one of the reasons that Le Saux got so much abuse is because of the way he conducted himself on the field. He was a really snide player at times. Anyone remember him stamping on Emmanuel Petit's ear, for instance? The people-hated-me-because-I'm-too-smart line is not the full story.

You'll never get the whole fans supporting gay footballers unfortunately, the fans just don't have the brains and mostly there for abuse not to support them. It doesn't matter whether your gay or not if you play football that all I want what you do after or in your own time is your choice and your life.

Always doubt the sexuality of someone that tries so hard to prove that someone else is gay, it's what you call "shifting attention"

decent thread and talking point mate. quite a sneery bullying media driven lad culture prevailed in the 90's iirc mate, reached it's apotheosis with baddiel and skinner trying to destroy jason lee's career.[DOUBLEPOST=1389288568][/DOUBLEPOST]

aye mate like an unconscious defence mechanism, an intrapsychic processes serving to provide relief from emotional conflict with the aim of fooling oneself imo

All of this. He was a horrible little twat at times and I never liked him. He more or less said in the article he gave as much as he took but he's using his apparently justified in that 'cos somebody called him a puff.

I admit I did but just think the scally daft lad act makes him look a knob. Never really took to the lad personally.

Never bothered me like, I knew / knocked about with plenty of people who were just like him I suppose.

The funny thing is that Robbie Fowler probably looks back at Robbie Fowler and thinks he was a bit of a nob.
