Latimers Whitburn

nice one mate i wasn't sure that the lad who told me was joking, there's a beaver lodge located just beside the south dock entrance anarl just shows how clean the river is
This was one of the things when all talk of bringing back shipbuilding and dredging the river would affect the most. Sounds like the river is beginning to thrive once again and it’s nice to see, walk along there occasionally from the stadium at its great.

saw this on Tyne tees the other day, gonna have to be careful, the pennywell pirates and Southwick navy will be trying to nick them.

apparently the water is very clean, contamination wise, but for someone who spends a bit of time in it I wouldn’t be eating the oysters or mussels from there.

It does in Shetland then traditionally the boats travelled down south along the North Sea so would be down to Norfolk around October. Back up to northern Scotland by March the next year. Hence the term Fishermen’s wife. They would follow the boats down the coast processing their husband catch as they went.

The food is generally good but pricey. The service is appalling. The owner seems a decent sort. The whole place stinks of fish.

fish lord, is the produce at the fish quay all locally caught or is some of it bought elsewhere and just sold there?

Interesting to hear your views on the water quality mate. Why wouldn't you be happy eating produce from there?

To be fair, they aren't being planted to be eaten. They are there to improve water quality and to spawn thereby hopefully increasing the population of Native Oysters which are on the endangered list. I guess once the native population increases at sea then they would be fair game for collecting and eating.

just being picky really, as I said the water flowing through is actually quite clean but the marina through the tides collects all the shit in the river. It’s not a great place as it tends to have a decent bit of petrol hanging around from the boats engines, obs it’s where we do a lot of training and many a time one of us has hoyed up after training etc
As Bakerloo said above its more for breeding/climate etc purposes.

The lads and patriots from the navy club will keep watch and defend our seafood

I don’t actually know but I would think they source plenty from elsewhere. They will have frozen cod and haddock to defrost when there is no fresh. A lot of the shellfish like king prawns and crevettes will be bought in and defrosted- simply because we do not get them in the UK. They will source fresh cod and hdk from Peterhead and Grimsby. Langoustines , crabs and lobsters will be sourced from the local boats.
