Latest boxing crack

What top of there game fighters does Hearn have in his stable now?
In terms of British fighters there's only Catterall and Sunny Edwards, though obviously Edwards lost when he stepped up against Rodriguez and neither are really stars. Overseas he's got Bivol, Shakur Stevenson, Boots Ennis, an on/off relationship with Canelo and Opetaia. And Katie Taylor and Baumgardner from the women.

Think that's the problem though. He built his domestic stable around his big ticket sellers - Joshua, Whyte and Warrington - but they all fell off a cliff around the same time. He ran an incredibly slick operation when he had the Sky deal - everyone wanted to sign for him because of the exposure he could offer and he could afford to run arena shows every other week and fill cards with a rotating cast of 'supporting artists' in mismatches against journeymen. But he got greedy and wanted Matchroom to be the UFC of boxing where the promotion is the attraction rather than the fighters, went with DAZN to gain more control over production and try to crack America and it's backfired. He's got very little left domestically and put his eggs in the American basket when all the money is in Saudi now. Ironically he was the first to go to Saudi but Warren has the best relationship with 'His Excellency'.

The DAZN deal and move was shocking, if it was a listed company shareholders would have a good mind to ask serious questions about him on that one. Shortly before that he bet against Fury and let him go with Warren as well.

Saudi comes to the rescue short term , but aye he is going to have to find / create another superstar.

I’ll hold my hands up, I’m no boxing expert. Was AJ shit tonight, not arsed and Dubois got him in an off night? Or was Dubois class and went straight out to knack him?

Bit of both. Joshua looked shit but Dubois looked like he had been going to hell in back in training and was gonna put a whipping on Joshua.

Still laughing that Joshua was still pie faced in the floor and the DJ banged Daddy Cool on at full blast 😂😂😂

AJ just wasn’t at the races tonight. He just looks like a bloke who’s going through the motions. Fury loses to Usyk in December and that’s it for now in the heavyweight division. Though next year AJ will fight Fury which will be nothing but a mega prize fight for them both .

Combination of a lot of things really. Dubois has always had incredible power but was put in against nobodies early in his career and spent his 15 fights demolishing tin cans when he really needed to be learning his craft - the first time he stepped up against Joyce he didn't really have anything in his arsenal other than go for the knockout, left himself wide open and got brutally picked off. He's had to rebuild, and whilst the potential was always there he never really looked comfortable or looked like he could step up to the elite level. AJ has never liked getting hit, going back to the Klitschko fight in 2017, and notably disappeared into his shell every time he's took a shot since. He went through a prolonged period of looking incredibly gun shy after losing to Ruiz in 2019 up to knocking out Jermaine Franklin in 2023, but looked closer to his best in the 4 fights since, albeit against poorer opposition. I expected him to stay behind the jab, wait for Dubois to leave himself open - which he frequently does - and spark him. But Dubois came out like a train and rattled him very early on and he had no answer.

So, short answer - Dubois was brilliant and exposed AJ's huge weakness where he goes into panic mode when he takes a shot. You couldn't really say it was poor tactics or a mistake or AJ taking him lightly because Dubois didn't allow him the chance to do anything, he was all over him from the first bell. And AJ deserves some credit because, despite all this, he did rock him with the shot just before the KO and kept getting up every time he was put down.

Regardless of what happens in December, the only place AJ can go next is Fury - there'll always be a huge demand for the fight and it isn't like Wilder where the intrigue is gone. AJ/Hearn will argue Fury doesn't have the brute power Dubois has and wouldn't be able to hunt him down like that. There isn't anywhere else for him after that, it's too late in his career for another rebuild.

People calling AJ a coward is utterly bizarre.

Bet none have ever laced gloves & got in a ring.

No cowards get in the ring and they certainly don’t make it to the olympics, win gold and become heavyweight world champions.
Anyone who steps through ropes deserves respect.

Im not a massive AJ fan but you cant knock his accomplishments. Will he go down as an all time great? No. But thats a rich history you going against.

I just hope if he does continue its for right reasons

For me he just wasn’t right on his feet from the off. His weight distribution, whole stance was just weird throughout.

Dubois has got a punch on him no doubt but a better boxer will pick him off no problem.

Talking to his corner shouting we live for these moments, shouting Dubois is shit, just acting himself like usual, loves sticking his tongue out and beating his chest when he’s getting battered for some reason.
was funny that haha, showboating when he was getting pezzelled
They both fought Klitschko once
They’ve both fought Usyk, Joshua fought him twice
Fury fought Wilder 3 times
Yeah I meant he’s won ONE fight against a world class oppoent his whole career. One. In 2017.

He did his best to dodge fury for 10 years (mind fury was no better in this regard). He fought Usyk twice and got beat despite being the bookies fav.

Good post but is there going to be much interest anymore in Fury v Joshua given they both are way past their best. It was a fight that should have happened years ago?

Agree with most of that but think any intrigue around the Fury fight disappeared for good last night.
