Latest boxing crack

Tyson v Paul and Pacman v Benn being announced on the same day shows how much the sport has declined itself.

Literally no one thinks its a good idea other than the promoter who negotiated it

Totally agree I love boxing but I hate what it’s become now
Eddie Hearn and his dull cards , the Saudi borefests and now you have you tubers and people from love island thinking they are sugar Ray Leonard
They have made a mockery of the Sport

Can't wait for the card later mind. Got a projector up in the gym so I can watch the early undercard before closing

Main fights I'm excited for are Vargas - Ball and Zhang - Parker, however rewatched Fury - NGannou last night and I'm even more convinced AJ dominates him tonight. Fury just repeatedly conceded his range whenever he threw a right hand. Just fell in to NGannou's arms. AJ will fire that right hand a lot straighter and think people may be surprised by some of his defensive work. I expect to see him rolling out to the right after his right hands regularly. Ben Davison is generally pretty good at getting his fighters to make these things habitual.

Last year was a fantastic year of fights. Ignore the farcical stuff and there was some really good matchmaking. The majority of boxing fans don't give the slightest toss about Tommy Fury etc.

And you are correct last year was a class year for boxing, some quality matchups all throug the year.
I don’t know why people get so emotional over a YouTube influencer. 😎😉

Undercard is way better than the headline event.

Done more for the sport than any british boxer since Lennox

Calzaghe was immense but boxing increased in size and viewership because of him

Hatton the same, he made all of Manchester into boxing not all the country

Fury made every traveller and a few more watch it

Joshua has brought so much more than that !

I want him to win tomorrow for the sake of it showing Fury for what i’ve long argued he is but we’ll see
I wouldn't say that.

Hatton was generally massive all over the country, massive mainstream star and definitely helped boxing during a pretty low period in Britain.

After the mid 90s you basically had the back end of Lewis, Naseem, Hatton, Calzaghe and Haye. They were all big stars and kept the sport alive here for a good decade between them.

Then due to the Olympics and Matchroom/Sky we had a boom period which Joshua was obviously the face of which was excellent.

Its all went a bit shit the last few years but starting to look back up a little bit now.

Joshua, love him or hate him has been great for boxing in the UK but it's a bit disingenuous to say the others didn't have as much as an impact though.

Fair play ! I can only look back and try and gauge things I watched some fights but was more into f1 as a kid !

Was 6-16 years old through the 90’s

It's fair enough but they were huge though.

Hatton V Floyd was one of the biggest fight of the 00s, was absolutely huge but even before that Hatton was filling arenas with ease.

Stadium fights had died off in the 90s but it was around this era they started to come back with Hatton at Maine Road and Calzaghe at Cardiff. All four of these would make the back page of the sports section when fighting.

It's took Calzaghe till late in his career mind but the Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins fights were pretty huge. He won Sports Personality of the Year which you know isn't much as an actual achievement but it is voted for by the public and only three boxers have ever won it (Lewis and Cooper the other two).

Naseem was huge for a couple of years but then fizzled out after the Barrera loss. Obviously lost the live for the sport and had issues outside the ring.

Haye wasn't as big as the rest but could have been. After Macaranelli he was pretty much made but then his own personality got in the way as he's pretty unlikable and wasn't having the fights people wanted to see. The toe excuse was basically it for him but he was a big star for a few years.
