My mother had 5 brothers and 5 sisters who produced 34 children between them. We all kept in touch and visited often with family parties every few years. My ma was the last born by 10 years so my cousins were generally older than me. When my sister goes (she's 9 years my junior but in poor health) I'll be the last standing from that generation. In addition, all but two of my early footy mates are gone, we we're a group of about 50. When i was younger I wondered why many elderly gave up on the will to live, but losing long term friends and family eventually takes it's toll on the soul.

Apart from long Covid, I haven't had any illness in adult life so I still have a big spring in my step. Life is more than OK and I am occupied with many projects but yes, I'm sort of lonely in a way.

I needed to share this that I could get from this mindset, so thanks for reading.
