Laptop on the blink?

I have a Packard Bell laptop, served me well over the last 4 year. However, I turned in on this morning and a thin white line has appeared, horizontally across the screen. From what I have read, it is the beginning of the end. Is this correct?

Was not expecting to shell out for a new laptop

Cheers for the info lads, I have reformatted it and it has randomly fixed it for now. Surprised at that as I thought the screen was completely on the blink!

Will see how it progresses in the next few days!

Edit - It has returned!!!!!!

It did for all of 6 miutes and it has came back with a rite bite!

It's usually a break in the tiny connection between the line driver IC and the matrix. It's not fixable, the LCD panel will need replacing. You might be able to pick up a new LCD on eBay, but make sure you get the right one.
