We have just released the following statement by newsletter and on our website :
Please read to the end the future of county cricket is at stake.
A week is a long time in politics but who knew cricket governance could match it for drama!
The club has now decided to call its own special general meeting the day after hearing we had the numbers to call one but it has yet to specify precisely the business to be conducted nor has it said what questions members will be given the opportunity to vote on.
Your request was as simple as it was fair. Given over 600 members have signed to oppose any reduction in first-class cricket, you wanted the club to have to seek the members' permission at an open general meeting before it was allowed to vote in favour of any ECB-proposed reforms that did reduce the number of first-class fixtures,
All 15 of the member-owned counties should immediately promise to do the same
There has been much mudslinging by the management at Lancashire but their statement that triggered the call for an SGM showed clearly two things:
1, they believed there needed to be fewer cricket games but that the Hundred had to be preserved
2. they were only prepared to keep members informed of developments, There was no promise to consult much less to respect their wishes
The following timeline shows just how long the club has taken to agree to give members a proper say and how quickly they changed when you made your feelings known.
21 April - The club chairman promises at the AGM to consult members “if there is anything comes out that requires proper consultation then we will consult with you properly” and promises to keep members informed as they get monthly updates from the ECB.
1st July - Club asked to make a statement on the schedule issues.
27th July - Club met its MRG with the 1st July question on the agenda.
2nd August - Club statement promised only to keep members informed but also said something had to give and there were dangers in trying to ring-fence 1st class cricket. The 100 would of course be kept untouched.
3rd August - SGM petition launch (we told the club first out of courtesy) SGM petition launch (we told the club first out of courtesy).
4th August - Club promises a members forum for 10 pm on 10/8 after discussing this with its MRG.
5th August - Club condemns LAG and discourages people from engaging with them and promises a formal consultation with members once the ECB proposals are received.
Later that day, the club changes the time of the forum to 12.30 pm once it realised the match was a day/night game!
8th August - more than 100 members sign our SGM form giving members a meaningful vote on whether the club can approve any ECB reforms that seek to reduce first-class cricket.
9th August - Club calls its own SGM for 5th September but no details on what motions will be put to the vote.
We think these facts speak for themselves.
Many members signing the request have confirmed that they have done so with a heavy heart. Lancashire members do not want to be in such a battle with their club’s management. No one really wanted to have to press the club’s management so hard to secure basic democracy on such significant changes. Some members did not sign in case the club banned them.
We also remind members of last season when alongside the Cricket Supporters Association we fought a prolonged campaign to allow members to elect their own representatives. The club and the MRG refused to discuss these issues until they were forced to by the motions members submitted to the AGM. Fearing losing the vote, the club and the MRG reversed their position and we agreed on the reform package approved at the AGM. The club credited the MRG with this reform but in fact, the MRG had opposed it as anyone reading the minutes from the August 2021 meeting can see.
Whatever happens at the SGM, it is clear that the club’s approach to dealing with members who hold different views is not fit for purpose It has failed twice now and those in power should reflect on their own attitudes towards the members.
We will not now submit your request for an SGM just yet. We do not know what the motion will be at the club’s own SGM. Please continue to sign our motion so that the club is in no doubt that they will not be allowed to vote in secret to reduce first-class cricket unless they first have obtained your permission as an owner of the club. If necessary we will present your request to make sure that you are given a meaningful vote.
We have collectors who will be at the Cafe Nero & pedestrian entrance at the main gates from 12 pm to collect signatures and where you can leave the completed forms.
Finally, please do go to today's member forum at 12.30 pm and let us know your feedback.
Thank you for your support and I hope to speak to you later today.

This is getting beyond a farce

.
The Club are now changing the date of the Special General Meeting that they announced yesterday for 5th September which was to counter the one we were going to call today. Confused? The Club certainly are. They are spinning like a Matt Parkinson leg break on the 4th day at Taunton!!!

This is now beyond a farce! Lancashire have scheduled their special general meeting on Tues 30th August at 9am which is a ludicrous time anyway but also the same day as the Royal London semi-finals of which we are favorites to qualify for. We could be away at Sussex and loyal members will be at the game of course.
Absolutely outrageous!!!
