Can you do it with a damp proof membrane and the cheap foam, or do you definitely need the specialist underlay?

I used the proper more expensive underlay, think it is worth it me like

When we moved into a new house with no flooring we just laid the damproof membrane down straight onto the concrete and put some cheap laminate on it. Lasted 6 years until we moved with no problems.

Make sure the concrete is level first and if not use some self levelling compound otherwise you'll have a mare.

You'd be far better off getting a decent wood floor and laying it on adhesive. Laminate is f***ing shite and you'll be wanting to replace it in 2 years time.

your concrete floor should already have a d.p.c underneath,

if this is correct you would be better with traditional a wood floor

That foam membrane is perfectly acceptable. I've used the awful fibreboard stuff before - its a nightmare to work with.

But it wont have insulation unless it's been built within the last 10 years or so, and therefore there's a good chance that interstitial condensation will form on the surface of the concrete as the warm air meets the cold surface, this will cause damp between the concrete and the laminate and fuck it, edges will swell and boards will lift.

Some of the foam membranes can work as DPM's but workability with this stuff is shite, there will be holes all over the place. Just get a proper DPM down and make sure it's taped.

:lol::lol:

Laminate!

I thought you and the missus would rather chop your knackers off than have that?

The budget went on her wood so I'm 'allowed' cheap lammy for my office apparently :lol:

It's new.

So I should be ok with DPM with foam on top?
