Lamb and Salad

Discussion with the wife this morning and she'd never heard this saying before we met. Seems to be a North East local expression, but I'm wondering how widespread, does anyone know. I was brought up in SW Durham and my family use it, anyone know the origins? Unusually for this kind of thing google doesn't really have any answers other than someone else looking for the answer and being told it's from the North East. Can the SMB furnish an answer?
Was it not Lamb sally meaning lazy and useless and no help as in "you standing there like lamb sally"
