Lack of fight - unacceptable.

Clearly won't happen, hush up and change yr tampon.

That's blind assumption of the worst kind JFK.

We look absolutely desperate to add players. Teams and agents are going to take the piss and Short might baulk at what's being asked.

Guaranteed we'll add players, no doubt at all. As if he'd come out and say what he said yesterday if we wouldn't.

He doesn't control the situation - there are other clubs and their players involved. That is why it's not rubbish, or guaranteed in any shape or form. If Short goes Mansour stylee on us, fair enough. Otherwise, fifteen million fee and ninety grand a week sound ok? Three or four times over? Yikes.

Will you pack in again if it happens? Hope so.

amount of people just willing to accept an absolute battering because we're Sunderland & shit is absolutely staggering. :-(

We started to play when the game was finished. We started to play when United took their foot off the pedal. Not really acceptable and the OP is 100% correct. We needed to be on our game from the very start. If we started slow (and we did) then we've only got ourselves to blame when the game's out of reach after 20 minutes.

Absolutely this. Apart from first 30 mins like.

We give United a half an hour head start man. We didn't even do that in the 19 point season. If we're going to defend then we must defend for our lives just like we did during 0-0 game under Bally. That team wasn't exactly anything special so the lack of ability argument is total nonsense. The difference between the two sides? One side went out and played for their lives, the other side went out knowing we were beat and it wasn't worth the hassle. The first 2 goals were so f***ing poor it was laughable. O'Shea's half arsed clearance for RVP, Cuellar and Larsson chasing shadows and leaving holes all over the shop for Cleverley's goal. But it's fine because we woke up after that? Really? Well I disagree.

Who is kissing players' arses? There isn't a single person that thinks the team or squad is good enough.

We have not once lacked any effort. Not once. The players are trying their hardest but lack confidence and in a lot of cases just aren't that good. You harp on about what happened when O'Neill first arrived and how we played then and want that again. Do you think this team is Champions League standard? That is what you are effectively saying. You want O'Neill to have this team playing at Champions League standard consistently. It is laughable. We have half of a good side and the rest are dump. In the last few weeks what do you think O'Neill could have done about hoying 2 in against West Brom? Bardsley messing up twice against Chelsea and the defensive efforts for the 1st and 3rd goals yesterday? What tactics or cajoling would have made a blind bit of difference to this individual howlers?

What do you suggest changing the team wise? Drop someone and bring in Campbell? Drop someone and bring in Vaughan or Kilgallon? Which players that are warming our bench will make a blind bit of difference?

Have you considered that this could be the best that these lot can muster? Look at the careers or the stage of the careers for a lot and tell me why anything other than a struggle should be expected.

We all accept January is a massive month. What else can we do? Pray that O'Shea and Cuellar are Benjamin Button and get younger and quicker? Pray that Bardsley learns what a football is? Make Gardner, Colback, Vaughan, Larsson and co anything other than relegation candidate plodders?

Everything that you're craving and suggesting O'Neill does is based on nothing but a whim and conjecture. It's fantasy stuff.

With all due respect that is a pile of crap. We'd looked relatively comfortable until the first goal which was an O'Shea howler. Nothing to do with a lack of fight. As for the 2nd, we were cut open by the team clear at the top of the league. Shocking, eh?[/QUOTE]

With all due respect it was atrocious defending. Even my nine year old lad could see this on MOTD when he was asking why the manyoo players were not closed down (the cross should never have got in for OShea to assist Van Persie) and the defender failed to track back and keep goal side of the attacker for the second goal. Far too much respect and space was allowed to the manyoo players - they did not have to be particularly good to score. Its no good waiting until we are two or three down a la Norwich, Chelsea and now manyoo before we start playing well.

I've just watched the highlights, not read any match reports or owt, but jesus christ what a bad team we are. What an absoltely woeful back four. O Shea and Cuellar are absolutely dreadful. Slow and shit. I'm not convinced O Shea really cares. And the less said about Bramble the better. Once again SAFC go a couple of goals behind, the game is to all intents and purposes finished and then they begin to play. I'm not his biggest fan by ay means, but Mark Lawrenson was absolutely spot on. We have got big problems.

All teams ease off the gas with a 2 goal lead, its more important to secure the win than go for 4 or 5 goals. That's why we look better, if we hadn't gifted them goals in the first halve we would have been pounded the whole game.

I completely accept that we were unlikely to get a positive result today. I'm of the opinion that I can take defeat on the chin if we've given our all but lose to the better side. That is what sport is about. What I dont like is the negative mindset that we have. I would like to see us try and be positive in these games as you never know what might happen. You can call that naive if you want but im worried that our focus seems to always be on nullifying the opposition rather than trying to assert ourselves on the opposition. We seem to have adopted the same set up in most games this season and it hasnt served us very well. I 's not just about today, we seem to be the same home and away regardless of the opposition.

We're all looking and hoping for ways to turn our situation around. I cant see that persevering with the same setup will do that. I would like to see O'Neill get 2 up front and give the opposition something to worry about. That isnt about today, it's about the whole season. We play with wingers yet dont get enough players into the box for crosses. It's been like that for months and has changed very little. Larsson isnt a cm yet is being played there every week regardless of performance. For me, Johnson looks better on the left than right, Sess isnt a second striker and gardner has played his best games at right back. So I would question the team selection - that does not make me a mag or a wum.

This is not about reacting to one game. I fundamentally worry about O'Neill's approach to. matches based on how poorly we're starting them, our inability to get the basics right and the end results over the last few months. I'm desperate for signs of things getting better but any signs only seem to come in 1 half of football and usually when we're chasing the game.

That's just my opinion - I dont expect everyone to agree but i'm not a mag, a wum or any other term that gets thrown at people who have a contrary opinion to those who are obviously passionate about SAFC. We all are - let's not lose sight of that or let that passion dismissively stop debate.

Completely agree with every word of that.

It's disgraceful that people feel they can abuse anyone who posts sentiments similar to this, some of the behaviour on here is absolutely shameful.

Par for the course, although I don't understand this cult-ish fervour to defend 'their man'. He's an employee. Yes, he has an excellent track record, speaks very very well and is imho the ideal figurehead for a club like ours. However, you can't simply ignore what's going on on the pitch because you happened to want him in the job. He's not going to get offended - in fact I'd bet a man like him would rather have valid questions asked of him than this blind faith rubbish.

How do you improve or learn if you're beyond criticism?

Who thinks he's beyond criticism?
