L.A. advice

We walked back from the pub with a police escort every night due to a couple of members of our party wearing club shop tat. Pub manager wad ring the station just before we left and a prowl car wad be outside. Twas a neutral area but they said all it’d take wad be the blue lot to be driving through and owt could happen.

We won a trip to LA a few years back and went towards the beginning of November, it was nice and warm but not too hot.
We stayed in the Beverly Hills Hotel which was amazing, proper old school Hollywood glamour. There's not a lot in the immediate area, but we enjoyed walking around the streets and just having a look around, ended up on Rodeo Drive near all the posh shops etc (I think that was Rodeo Drive, instead of street lamps they had Chandeliers!)
Hollywood itself is pretty seedy and not a place you'd want to hang around, but it's worth a drive up to the hills just to get your picture taken against the Hollywood sign. We couldn't get that close to it as there'd been fires at the time.
Universal Studios is well worth a visit if you're into that kind of thing, as is Six Flags Magic Mountain which was brilliant (again, if you like theme parks).
We got a taxi to Venice Beach and then walked up the coast to Santa Monica and took in Santa Monica Pier, loved all of that.

Culver City looks good, close to airport, coast, Beverley Hills for a mooch
I say close It looks massive, all the trains go north and east of the downtown LA. Dont know if I want to go that far out, only there 5 nights.

Not getting shit is a bonus.

Where would a Northern English middleaged bloket take himself drinking on a Satda night by himself in LA? Good Craft beer?
LA is basically 250+ miles long N-S according to regulars in the Santa Monica pub we used. It may have different names in outlying parts but it’s one long urban sprawl.
Bunnymen-New Order-PIL iirc were playing the same gig while we were there and we fancied gannin but it turned out to be about 35+ miles away with no trains easily accessible and buses sketchy as owt. Nivver went.
