Kyle Lafferty - contract terminated...

You have to love this endorsement.

Palermo Maurizo chairman Zamparini said: “Why was Lafferty sold? It was requested by my coach who asked me to send him away. He is a womaniser – he disappears for a week, takes a plane to go hunt for women in Milan.

"His behaviour is unmanageable. I asked Iachini to straighten him out but he told me can’t. Kyle’s an Irishman without rules.”
Sounds like perfect training for hitting the back of the net. I reckon LJ could give him enough freedom, more than PP for certain.

I thought he was our best striker for a couple of months. He actually resembled a competent footballer. I remember his goal against gillingham when he took it round the keeper & saying Wyke wouldn’t have done that. Never seen him as an out & out target man like- another misused?

Are you not thinking OF Wyke?

Lafferty's goals were a header and a 1 on 1.

He would have been a better shout than Graham without a doubt and remains better than the rest of what we have but isn’t the type we’re missing so if we signed him I wouldn’t start him ahead of a goalscorer and someone with pace who moves better and I suspect he’ll be too costly

Other than the Gillingham game he was pretty crap. I must have been watching a different player than everyone else.
The fact he's had so many clubs and never score that many goals is also an indicator he's pretty shit.

He wasn't an upgrade on Wyke imo, which says at all. His starts at Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers were disgusting.

Lafferty is far better than Graham and probably, if fit, better than Wyke. However, last night gave us a glimpse of a different style of football where you have mobile players up front who can control a ball and make intelligent runs. We have tried the big lump method for too long and it hasn't worked.
I'd have him back in a heartbeat.
He's not the answer but I can't get my head around why the club didn't offer him a contract but did offer one to the disaster that is Danny Graham.

I agree but the big lump approach can be effective from the bench. Let's not go overboard over AoB though, he has given us a glimmer of hope against lower opposition - let's see if he can maintain that.

Not offering a contract was the right decision in isolation but looks questionable only because we then signed Graham which was undoubtedly a poor decision. In truth I thought he might have enough experience and professional pride to be a decent option from the bench for a year but certainly wouldn’t have signed him, we needed a guaranteed starter and still do.

Definitely agree regarding O'Brien - even last night he looked powder puff on occasions. Playing limited big men up front has been a disaster for us - had we signed Lyle Taylor 3 season's ago we would have gone up. Having a centre forward who can control a ball, maintain it and run with it would be a great change of style. O'Brien having played at a higher level and even scored against Poland should be able to do this role but I still have doubts about his tougness.

He did enough to suggest he might be adequate cover for a first choice mobile centre forward ahead of Grigg. Wyke is a good option, relatively speaking, from bench. Kimpioka should be a decent option too once fit. Grigg and Graham have no place in the squad from my perspective and we should be doing everything to shift them in order to bring a proper striker in.
I’d also be inclined to ditch Maguire, don’t think Johnson’s style suits him and he’s looked poor. He’s a rare relative success in our transfer strategy but has outlived his usefulness in my opinion. Pacy winger to compete with Diamond needed.
