Is Colback within that time frame? Benji too. I think we'll have a few but his figure was still pretty decent and I think it'll more than ours.

dunno, it all depends on the quality of those players. PDC played 3 youth team players in the last game of a season iirc, not sure if any were ever seen again, can't remember who they were. on the face of that you could realistically give 5 players a season their debuts but if they're all shit and never heard of again it means nowt.

or you could only introduce one every other season but they go on to play 200 games for the club or gets sold for 20m

pretty obvious the second scenario is better but look at the numbers and youd say club 1 is th better at bringing through youth.

Must be, it will be way more than 18 we probably had 4/5 this season.
Gooch, Hume, Embleton, Diamond are all in around our first team now.

We will have had way more.

true, but that might not actually be a good thing ....

Just watched that Speakman interview from 2016 and notice he mentioned it's imperative the club ties players down and gave an example of a kid called Ronan Hale getting 3 and a half year deal to prove he can get into the first time. Checked Hales Wiki, now playing uptop for Larne FC

Looking at players like Gray, Butland, Redmond and Bellingham, plus more products playing in regularly in their first team squads, I'd give Blues the edge on this one.

Aye I think Big Sam gave three players their debut against Watford last game, Greenwood, one of the Robsons and maybe Gooch?

Anybody have any idea of when we’ll hear anything official ... about anything?!? I’m starting to suffer from rumour overload here like ...

Birmingham as a club have always been good for giving players a chance. Joe hart went there and was very good. Jesse Lingard and Ravel Morrison too. Yes Bellingham is a top player but only where he is now because the manager was willing to play him at 16. Hopefully this new bloke insists on the involvement of younger players and we get a manager thats willing to take a chance.

In fairness you probably have to tie down quite a few frogs for every prince that comes along. Would Josh Maja have been allowed to run his contract down to six months if this fellow had been involved?

that's fair, i can only talk in generalisation and pose the question cuz i don't know too much about birmingham.

i think overall you could argue our youth set up has been doing a decent job mind, but there is no getting past the manager if he wont play the lads. hume and gooch have been very useful players to us, if the likes of maja, asoro, mumba had stuck around they might be improving the first team alot, diamond and possible neil & embleton look like they might well improve the team, watmore unlucky with injuries. that's the thick end of a full squad if it had been utilised correctly - and that's not including another handful in the age below that we've fucked off who might well be knocking on the door for the next few years, the likes of hugill and pye and greenwood

Looking at the way they handled Bellingham, he was able at least to get him to stick around long enough to give them a huge incoming fee.

The Bellingham money more than makes up for it though:cool:

Looks like has some talent. Seems like some forward thinking. I like it. Academy now to be used properly, with pathways to the first team. Will be important to develop young players with salary caps coming in. Will be one in the Championship by the time we get back there.
