Is he the most stark example of the gap between the SPL and even the Championship? They mentioned on Late Kick-off last night that he's the all-time record goalscorer up there.

One of those "football was invented by Sky" statistics. He has scored most goals since they re-branded the top division.
Stokes, Kyle, Sleeves and Murphy all get a game up there. Championship subs at best.

Thought he would have been banging them in if I'm honest.
Scott McDonald had a good record and he's done very little at Boro.

That's not entirely fair likes.
He does very little (if anything but) put the ball in the net. He needs service which he got loads of for Rangers and isn't getting any at Boro.
He's now really fat.
He wasn't even considered the best striker at Rangers when he was top scorer.
It's certainly not a great standard in the SPL, but the top 5 or 6 clubs are at least as good as championship standard.

the old firm would struggle badly if they ever got into the Premier League. Relegation would happen and they'd slink back off north of the border

Same here mate. Is the SPL League 1 standard at best then? It was also mentioned during the Man Utd game at the weekend that Darren Fletcher is the only Scot to have won the FA Cup in the last 10 years.

The SPL has massively overachieved for too long and is settling down to the level it should be at for a country of 5 million people. Celtic winning the European Cup was a mind blowing achievement for such a small nation. Even as recently as a few years ago with Celtic in the CL knock outs and Rangers reaching the EL final, Scotland has been overachieving.

I think you'd find if either got into the premier there'd be investors come out of the woodwork. Celtic especially are a sleeping giant in terms of brand name, and I've no doubt they'd get backing in their first season to help them survive and to go on and do very well.
If they went in with their current team, yes of course they'd struggle, but that wont happen.
It's naive at best to dismiss them as you are.

Do you reckon mate? Admittedly, I don't watch much Scottish football these days but Kris Commons apart, not many have really done much down here at Championship level for a few years

Scottish football has suffered more than here because the foreigners they have brought in are such low standard, anybody who doesn't make it darn sarf can become a superstar up there. No young Scots coming through, we will suffer more and more here, partly why England struggle so much

Barry Bannan, Danny Wilson, James Forrest, James McArthur, Robert Snodgrass off the top of my head. The cream of the crop James McCarthy looks to have chosen Ireland though.

Off the top of me head, MacGregor, Bougherra, Whittaker, Davis, Jelevic, Diouf, McCulloch and Weiss from Rangers would all be good Championship players.
Celtic have Scott Brown, Izaguirre, Ledley, Maloney, Hooper, Loovens, Forrest and Kayal.

Boro's latest savior Zemamma just signed from Hibs and they're already calling him the new Juninho.

Wigan just signed Connor Sammon from Kilmarnock.

Kenny Miller seems to be scoring a few goals in Turkey too.

It's clearly not the Premiership but it's not fair to compare for numerous reasons.

It's not worse than the Championship though.

I would be the all time leading scorer in Scotland if I played for either Rangers or Celtic.

no. can't just make this assumption without watching boro. Theyre shite.

I mean, consider the chance creation at Rangers compared to Boro.....

He's only as good as the rest of them
