KPMG's Bill Michael resigns after telling staff to 'stop moaning'

I’d agree with the position that taking steps to proactively manage stress, anxiety and depression really do help.

I’ve had to do it myself and gotten pretty good at it, but it’s a constant battle.

What you need to recognise though is that the pressures you’re facing aren’t the same as everyone else and for whatever reason, the barriers to starting to take those steps are higher for some. And the effort needed to maintain your mental health is higher for some, or your capacity to do it is lower.

I think that’s what Bantz Middleton and his creepy fanboi on here don’t quite realise.

I didnt want to come across like that at all.
When I suffered I had minimal responsibilities, now little bothers me n ive got a company n 3 kids, its a weird, awful, affliction.

It was meant towards the largest percentage using it as a great excuse for fuck ups or lazy/shit performance.

Genuinely sorry if it was seen any other way.

The mask slips. Loads of these leaders of the consulting firms will be utter bastards. It is why they are at the top. Awful culture of work your bollocks off or you are out.
I suppose things may have changed but I doubt it.
Education is the same. (Awaits the 13 weeks holidays comments)

Loads of young graduates who graft their arses off doing stupid hours till it’s not sustainable.

Unless they get a promotion a lot end up leaving as the workload becomes unmanageable as they’ve basically said yes to everything without questioning it.

Depression and stress are two different things, one has a negative impact on the other, but stress can be managed easily imo.

The problem comes from not dealing with stress and letting it snowball, this will eventually manifest in a breakdown, or for those suffering depression, possible suicide.

Society doesn’t deal with stress anywhere near as well as it should, and the way we are evolving is actually making it worse, in particular putting extra pressure on young people and you’re seeing that in suicide figures.
I managed stress easily for decades until I needed open heart surgery.
Having been out of that kind of environment for a while I recognise the difference massively. Very glad I don't have to deal with arseholes on a daily basis any more.

It is easily managed, but if you’re not managing it yourself you must reach out for help. Many people suffer in silence and that only ends ups making things worse, that’s why it’s important to seek help for stress. I was close to a breakdown last year, new role where I thought I must impress, taking on too many projects and working stupid hours, as soon as it started to affect my home life then that was the trigger for me to seek help.

Get help, speak to someone and never suffer in silence is the key.

Some stresses can be harder to overcome then others

I know where you're coming from but how people deal with situations isn't universal.

Something that is like water off a ducks back to me could stress you the fuck out or vice versa.

With depression there can be genetic and neurological factors at play, it's not just a case of sucking it up or getting a reality check.

this is very true. i'd like to think i'm pretty laid back but i can see that sometimes things get to different people differently. i tend to look at things i can change i'll try to and things i can't aren't worth worrying about.
same as on here, there's folk will never agree on things so it is what it is and no amount of arguing the toss will change that.
i think we all get pissed off at times but having read some of the depression thread i can see how difficult it must be.

I hadn’t and still haven’t read your post tbf

Good luck just thinking your way out of depression

CBT is recognised as an effective treatment for depression. Not for everyone of course, but it does work. In a layman's nutshell, it involves thinking your way out of depression, more specifically by systematically stopping destructive negative thought patterns.

Not ideal, but they're working, have a roof over their heads and are able to feed themselves. Don't get me wrong, its tough, I'm finding it tough working from home being flung from project to project and not meeting the team, having kids fighting in the background and struggling with homeschooling, and not getting a break from it all and when getting spare time, unable to get out from the same four walls...but you need to put this into context, there's a global pandemic killing people, it wont last forever and we'll soon be able to enjoy our freedom and luxuries again, there are millions of people far worse off.
Not everyone can see that though is the issue. Ant Middleton, just listened to a podcast “High Performance” with Jake Humphreys he spoke on, sounded one of the most troubled individuals I’ve heard in a while.

Im not taking stress etc lightly, Ive suffered myself but listening to an Ant Middleton podcast recently n he was slating what a nation of fannies weve became, with dogshit excuses for underperforming at work n taking zero responsibilty. I had to agree with some elements.

While sitting on his fat arse in a nice warm office on a top wage, fuck him.

I’ve said this before on here, too many people are hiding behind stress and more depression as an excuse, when in reality they simply just need a reality check! Sitting in our nice warm houses, with all the comforts and maybes struggling with a bit home schooling isn’t stress!

Losing your job because of the pandemic, not being able to afford the mortgage, services and food to feed your family is stressful and will fuck you up.

There are people who really need help in society and are really struggling, but these are diluted because of those that are playing the stress and depression cards.
Worrabout the stress of living somewhere and pretending you live somewhere else?

Someone at my work didn’t get a pay rise and was off for 6 months with stress. He said the doctor kept giving him a sick line without asking questions.

Meanwhile we all had to pick up the slack whilst he sat about on full play taking the piss.

I was never the personality for that sort of environment. It doesn't breed a decent cohort of colleagues IMHO. The ones that get up the greasy pole are single minded (autistic) or psychopaths.
Dunno. I'm an autistic psychopath and they booted me at senior manager level.

In my experience the people who succeed in that environment are either rainmakers who can sell worthless projects to idiots for top dollar with a straight face, or eager to please people who work 80 hours a week and are willing to change their entire personality into exactly what the firm wants their partners to be.

"We wish him all the best for the future."

It's like a football club sacking the manager with an official statement of "We wish to place on record our thanks for his hard work at the club."

We all know it means "Fuck off and we hope you get an incurable yeast infection."
