Interesting stuff.

Unfortunately as in all walks of life you sometimes have to be a bit of a **** to be successful. Not only that but people commensurately need to be strong enough to tell people to fuck off. Another thing is that when you play for England or any team you are not being asked to like the people you work with. You are being asked to play alongside them as a team when you are out on the pitch. What you do outside of the team is your business.

On saying all of this Pietersen has an ego the size of The Grand Canyon and a lot of his problem could be down to the fact that he wasnt the main man and perhaps couldnt take being down the pecking order. Typically though England sports teams have no idea how to handle the maverick, whether its a footballer or a cricketer.

Pietersen is best of out of it and England are best off without him.

I wonder how Mike Brearley would have handled him?

But as a fan of county cricket and the importance of the championship you do accept that he won two with two different counties and not many CLOWNS could achieve that.

Well done to him for that but he had one chance previously with England and is back again for a 2nd chance. It's "ironic" how the ECB can dish out 2nd chances to "yes men". Flower is exactly the same, nicked off then has been hushed into the Lions job because he's a "yes man"

Or... no other bugger would take the gig.

Can't disagree with any of that

He seems to love the attention tho. If he really wanted to play international cricket again he would close his Twitter and start scoring thousands of runs in the championship

He clearly isn't that arsed
The championship is almost irrelevant as far as international cricket is concerned.

he spent ages after day 1 of the ashes test at CLS signing autographs in the car park when others seemingly wanted away as quickly as possible.
I have a similar story about Boycott, when after the first day at the Ashes Oval test in 77 was controversially abandoned he was the only one who stood and signed for a huge crowd of us. Not just scribbled either, a perfect signature. Looks like both of them are aware that it's the paying customer that's important.

Does this now draw a line under the sorry saga or do swann, prior, cook, fletcher et al respond in print? Will the daft buggers at the ECB give their side or keep a discreet silence.

Conpletely sick of it

I think Thursday will only be the start of it.

A media circus will get the opinions of anyone who knows what a cricket ball looks like. Tit-for-tat mud slinging. There'll be no winners apart from KP's publishing company.

Glad has finally been able to give his side of the story. People can now make an informed opinion of what went on in the dressing room

I know he's was a team mate of Pietersen at Hampshire and Surrey. But he's always seemed rather nice and not one for lying.

Cracking bloke Chris Tremlett

Going to a lunch on Friday with Graham Gooch and Geoff Miller, it'll be interesting to hear their take on things - which will of course be fed back here. At some point

To be fair KP was given two lives himself after hounding out Moores in 08 and textgate.

Prior is one of my favourite ever cricketers. Wasn't it him that made the olive branch call to Pietersen in 2012 when everyone else wanted to sack him off?

You're right, but if he racked up 1,500 runs by July they'd have been unable to ignore him. As it was he fucked off to the IPL and the WIndies playing laugh and giggle cricket meaning he had no credible case for a recall.

To be fair to him the selectors and Downton made it pretty clear a comeback wasn't happening on their watch. He had the choice of playing county cricket for the sake of it or earning a load more cash playing and captaining a team in front of massive crowds in India and then a stint in the Caribbean, who wouldn't have made the same choice as him?

Interest point in the previous post about Prior being the one to call him, as I recall that's correct. I wonder if Pietersen's "stabbing in the back" comment relates to this? Maybe Prior took all the credit publicly but didn't have anything to do with it or only did it as a PR stunt (maybe he's mates with Graeme Smith too )?

Whatever the case, it will be interesting to hear Pietersen's side of events and of course it's going to be one-sided and biased, but at the minute we've only had the other side of the story. The reality's probably going to be somewhere in the middle. Personally I think Pietersen will have felt unloved by England in the last couple of years and daft as it is to say this, I think he lacks true self-confidence and needs constant reassurance. I don't think Flower's regime would have been like that and then Pietersen has reacted to that.

And whatever the reasons for the current situation, I've loved watching him play over the last 10 years and wish he was still in form playing for England.

He's not going to hold back on Prior mind, could get interesting.

Classic! you slag Harmison off on one thread for not supporting his side, then on this thread you praise a bloke who has fallen out with team mates at every club he has been at.(and sacked at three)
Natal
Nottinghamshire
Hampshire
England
It's not rocket science is it?
A bloke gets sacked off from almost every club he has been to , yet it's everyone else's fault.

I have never met KP and know little about him. However, having worked previously for an ego driven bully the pattern of behaviour tends to be one of being vile and ignorant to all around you, but to squeal like a pig about the unfairness of it all the moment someone stands up to you.

He's a controversial bloke because he speaks his mind and has his own opinions which I admire in anyone & for that reason he was never ever going to fit in with the clowns that are the ECB who have made Cook into one of the biggest puppets in English sporting history. Vaughan wrote a good article about it all last night.

What a f***ing load of shite, and the likes of Michael vaughan lapping it up

Whatever bloody "culture" the bowlers and prior fostered, it was the right one, as we became the best side in the world, it only ended due to a ludicrous back to back ashes.

Michael vaughan says shows why we never got the best out of KP......he became the all team run scorer under Strauss and Flower

whatever they were doing, it work, and the only complaints will be the likes of KP, who have sour grapes.

Pathetic.

totally agree, which makes it more annoying that he gets some support for this, he's a hideous bloke, he talks like this after leaving every club he's been at.
