Kirk Douglas RIP



Five Live went big with Natalie Wood trending above Kirk Douglas on Twitter, and then detailed the unsubstantiated rumour that Kirk Douglas raped her when she was 16.

They're moving into conspiracy theory territory. Yes, there's plenty online about the incident, but it's all (at best) third-hand hearsay and no charges were ever brought (unlike Kobe Bryant, who settled a rape allegation out of court). People have had more than sixty years to pursue the case while Kirk was around to defend himself. It's a bit low to ramp up the allegations the moment he dies.

Yeh, they mentioned that Kubrick thought that scene was stupid and wanted it cut, he was overruled by Kirk. Lovely quip by him after being interviewed on his 100th birthday, as they wrapped up the interview he asked if they would be inviting him back for his 200th. An absolute legend.

John Wayne famously stormed up to Douglas after a screening and raged: “Christ, Kirk, how can you play a part like that? There’s so goddamn few of us left. We got to play tough, strong characters. Not those weak queers!”
